I work 2 shifts a week. Sometimes they are nights, sometimes days. When I work at night I haven't been pumping because normally they boys are STTN so I wouldn't be feeding them. But then during the day I'm sleeping and they get bottles of pumped milk, so I have to wake up and pump or stretch the length of time I pump/feed during the day. (Does that make sense?)
I guess my real question is, does it matter when I pump (the middle of the night if I'm on a night shift so I can sleep during the day) as long as I get the same number of pumps for each missed nursing session? Or is it important for me to be consistent with my body and not pump at night but make sure I replace a day nursing session with pumping? Sorry that sounds confusing, my schedule is confusing and I don't know how to make it sound simpler.
Re: XP- pumping, shift work, BFing question
I work 3 night shifts a week 6pm-4am. I usually miss 1 feeding at around 8pm, but generally can't pump until midnite or so. This actually works out pretty good since its later then usual in the morning when I pump/feed again. No doubt I am ready to pump by the time I do, but I haven't had any effects then on my days off with supply changes.
I'm sure every situation is unique and you will just have to test the water and see what works and doesn't. Shift work just throws a wrentch into things!
