Carriers and shopping carts

I see so many people with baby carriers resting on shopping carts - this can't be safe, right?? I've always brought my stroller, but can see how having a cart would be much easier, especially if buying a bunch of stuff -

Where do you put your infant carrier when you are shopping??

Re: Carriers and shopping carts

  • Mine goes right in the front of the shopping cart. They fit snug in most of them. If there is a cart that it doesnt, I will put him in the back of the cart. Or wear him

  • We have a Britax Chaperone... and it's so freaking big it doesn't fit in the shopping cart unless we put it in the back.
  • Our infant carseat locks into the shopping carts where a older child would sit quite easily. I don't see how it isn't safe though, they fit in there snuggly and you aren't leaving your baby unattended.

  • I always put her in the big part of the cart, the front has a risk of tipping the cart over.

  • I have Graco Snugride and it locks onto the cart.

  • It makes me nervous to put it so high on the shopping cart so I always use my 'mommy hook' (like a gigantic carabiner) and clip the baskets behind my stroller handle.

Same, it fits well on most carts.  But I never take a hand off of the carrier or leave the cart.  Most of the time it's just easier to put her carseat on the shopping cart vs. lugging the stroller out.

    This.

This!  I mentioned this earlier, but I personally know of two people who had the carseat flip off the cart and they both said the carseat "locked in" and they never walked away.  Please don't put your kiddos on top of the cart!!

  • I usually wear him.  I have also put the carseat in the big section (but that left almost no room for groceries) and have also just shopped with my stroller (putting my purchases in the basket underneath)
  • If the car seat fits in the small section where a child would fit, that's where it goes.  If it doesn't fit, then DH carries the whole seat around the store - we ALWAYS go food shopping together.  However, if I was by myself and it didn't fit, I would wear Liam.

I really don't see the point of putting the car seat in the big part of th cart... how the heck would you fit all the groceries?  I shop for the whole week, I need that room.

  • With #1 I clipped her car seat into the top part but a friend of mine had her car seat flip off even though it was clipped in. The carrier landed upside down on the ground.  Luckily her LO was small enough that she didn't hit her head.  With #2 I put him in the big part of the cart, wear him, or take in my stroller.  I get a big eye roll from DH but I don't care.
