Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Milk coming in

This is what I dreaded the most. It is not that bad but still, I am slightly engorged and uncomfortable and a tiny bit leaky.

I know all the tricks, no hot water on them in the shower, cabbage, tight sports bra etc. But how long will this last? I just want them to go back to normal :(

Re: Milk coming in

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. This was one of the hardest parts for me - a constant reminder.

Mine were mostly back to normal in about 5 days, but I didn't have any leakage, only very heavy and sore. I was in a tight sports bra at all times, except to shower. A girlfriend of mine not only wore a sports bra, but wrapped herself into an ace bandage as well.

     Good luck!

  • (((hugs)))  Try peppermint tea and sudafed or benadryl (can't remember which one dries you up, I think they're both not recommended when nursing b/c they'll dry you up).  you should feel better in 3-5 days.  If it's too uncomfortable, you can express some milk w/o stimulating more production.

  • Mine still leak every once in awhile, but I pumped and donated for 4 weeks after Aidan passed. My milk had come in while he was still alive.  I think they went back to normal size within a week of when I stopped pumping.

  • Yeah, it was about a week for me, too.  I had to wear pads becaause I leaked SO much.  It was definitely the worst, it was just so final and such a painful reality.  Hang in there and take care.

  • I would say I was uncomfortable for about 4-5 days. I hope it goes back to normal soon.
  • I think it was about a week, maybe 10 days.  Much easier than when I weaned K at a year old.
  • It was the worst part for me too. Just a constant reminder. Mine only leaked in the shower though. Peppermint tea helped. I can't remember just how long it lasted, all my days seem to run together. :(

I did all of the above and drank sage tea.  The milk dried up within 4 days thank goodness. GL!

  • Mine were only sore and heavy for about 5 days. I had one day where one leaked a lot. Ever since they've been leaking only the tiniest bit. I still wear a sports bra 24/7 and put breastpads on... Just incase. I think I might stop doing that tonight though.

  • I think it is different for each women. I have a friend that it lasted 2 weeks. For me? 7 months and I could still get a drop out.

Just don't play w/ the twins... and cross your fingers - you should be okay.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy.

     (((hugs)))
