NBR sad moment with a student

I have a girl in my class who came in today with a Chris Brown T-shirt.   She asked if I liked Chris Brown.  I said I used to, but I can't respect any man who hits women.  She said "I still love him tho.  Rihanna had it coming to her, questioning her man."

OMG are you serious??  It just broke my heart that she actually believes this.

    Seriously...How old is she? Thats is very sad. I have a cousin who's 12 and I'm amazed by the things she says/does. Things I didnt even know existed when I was 12...crazy

    I'd be watching that kid like a hawk for signs of abuse (like I'm sure you are).  Does your school have a big brother/big sister program so you could get her hooked up with a positive female role model on a consistent basis?  So sad.

    I've heard people say that before, and it really makes me sad. 

    I was in an abusive relationship during high school and it ended by him putting me in the hospital. He went to jail for 11 years (still there) and many people thought I was wrong for going to court and pressing charges against him.. I actually lost a lot of friends over it.

    ETA - The purpose of that story is.. some people just don't understand the harsh reality of domestic abuse.

    OP, that is really sad. And MamaS, good for you! I'm sorry you lost friends over it, but they obviously weren't very good friends.....

    Ugh.  That's awful.

    My BFF is an elementary school teacher and has to deal with boys calling girls their "b!tches" and all manner of degrading talk.  My best guess is that they're learning it from music/music videos.

    So sad.  I never ever even thought of stuff like that when I was 12.  My biggest issue was being mad at my mom cause she wouldn't let me shave my legs.
