Daycare payment question

I have always paid my daycare lady if I've kept C home because she was sick but I'm wondering if I let her know ahead of time like 2 weeks that she'd be out, do I still pay for the day missing?  I let her know 2 weeks ago that C wouldn't be coming tomorrow but I'm just wondering if I still pay for tomorrow.  I dont mind, but my main wonder is about vacations.  We have a week vacay planned this summer.  Am I still to pay for that full week of daycare?  What do you guys do?

I should find the paperwork that she gave me when we started.  I'm just wondering what is the norm here.

Thanks!

Re: Daycare payment question

  • We don't pay for vacation days that we tell her about in advance.  We are taking off a week in July and she already knows about it.

Last month when Donnys grandma died, my daycare gal didnt want us to pay for the day we were gone for the funeral. I insisted because it wasnt "planned" and I know she relies on our pay as income and I wanted to be fair.

  • well I take DD to daycare at my work and they are very strict on their policies, but what they do you submit a vacation form (2 weeks before you go on vacay) and you pay half price for that time period instead of full price.  So your provider might have something in place like that.  You should ask though, if she is a in-home, she might have more relaxed policies then ours.  GL

  • I have to pay for the days I keep her home sick and the days (or even weeks) we are on vacation.

If daycare is closed because they are sick (home daycare) or vacation then I do not have to pay.

I've found that this policy is fairly standard . . . although I think it sucks!

  • every place has their own policy.  we have to pay for days he is out but have 2 weeks out of the year that we can schedule ahead of time and pay 1/2 the weekly price.
  • For the little girls in-home daycare we pay 1/2 price for any weeks that we are out.

For the big girls pre-school we have a week a year that we can take pre-planned without pay.

Hmm, I need to reassess this if we're ever in the market for a DCP.  Both places we've had DD, we had to pay full tuition whether or not she is there...

  • My mom is a daycare provider and she takes 2 weeks off non paid vacation a year and most parents end up taking vacation the same. She has a small group and all her clients pay for days they're out because it's in her contract. I'd read over your contract and see what rules are in there. My mom charges because even though the kids aren't there she hold's their place and doesn't add on new children to make up the income.
