Houston Babies

Does anyone know of a midwife that does IUIs in Houston?

Hello, ladies.

I am interested in having a simple IUI done soon. I am in contact with a fertility clinic but am looking instead for a midwife that I can work with. Do any you have experience in this area or can point me in a good direction? Thanks!

Can they do that? I wouldn't think they'd have the equipment to seperate the swimmers from the fluid.

  • I've never heard of that either.  I think there's a lot more involved in an IUI than just a "simple" procedure.  Are you going to be doing OI drugs also?  Can they monitor you (ultrasounds/ bloodwork)?

It is possible for them to do it. Some would refer out for the wash but midwives that work with a lab could do it themselves. Of course the midwife would have that additional training but its possible.

An IUI in my case would be pretty close to simple because I am not required to take any drugs as I ovulate on my own, am not going for any ovarian stimulations and monitoring would be minimal for the first try. Some midwives either refer out or are equipped to do the monitoring themselves.

I don't think they do, but check w/ the midwives at Women's Specialists of Houston at St. Lukes.  I'm pretty sure they are the only medical-midwives in town.  There is also an RE within their practice so they might be willing to take you on as a patient, but have him do the actual IUI.

  • Midwives have no business performing IUIs.  Most regular ob/gyns don't even do it.  That's very much out of the scope of a midwifery practice.

Interesting. What would be the benefit of having a midwife do it?

Are you thinking only of birth midwives? Because obviously they wouldn't be the ones to perform it without the training. They are only one type of midwife. There is training for midwives to perform IUIs and it has been done all over the country so many times for years.

It's very much the same as having an RE do it but because I have already spoken to one and I wont need the drugs and not much monitoring, a midwife could be an alternative.

Thank you. I will look them up.
