I'm not sure if these are all symptoms of the same issue or if they are unrelated, but I'll tell you everything that's worrying me and if you could please help with any/all of it, I would be so grateful!
DS is 3 wks old and eats constantly. Every hour for anywhere from 10-45 minutes. I can't get him anywhere near my chest w/o him rooting (which means I can't even hug him or carry him!!). He often kicks, grunts, arches his back and pops off the breast. I assume he's trying to poo but nothing comes out then he's rooting & wailing until I get him latched back on which is hard to do bc his head is all over the place and his little hands are in the way.
I just feel like in the last week, BFing hasn't been peaceful & enjoyable for either of us. Does anyone have any advice or insight please? TIA
Re: Advice, please! Frantic nurser
Are you burping him often? Have you tried a pacifier? When DD#2 is frantic like that and pulling off it usually means she needs to burp or she needs to suck but doesn't actually want milk.
Is this frequency new or has it always been that way? 3 weeks is growth spurt time, too... so the frequent eating might just be that, too.
This!
Also, kmrvsade - I love that pic of your kids!
My LO was born on April 9th and is doing the exact same thing. I am blaming it on a growth spurt and my DH being out of town for 9 days and upsetting our schedule.
I will second swaddling and nursing. This will help to keep arms away from babys face and keep baby from squirming as much. Be sure to burp well and between breasts. (we sometimes will go up to 5 min in order to get a burp out). Sometimes when my DS pops off when I know he isnt finished with that side, i will burp him for a minute or two and then put him back on the same side.
Like someone else said, 3 weeks is a growth spurt so if this frequency and behavior isn t normal for baby that could be the cause of this. If it is normal behavior try some of the tips mentioned.
