A couple of years ago I stumbled onto a photographer's blog here in Austin. She and another photog offered classes to new moms who have DSLR's and wanted to learn how to take pics of their babies. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I've googled this morning and I can't find it.
I've had a DSLR for almost 2 years and I am just ok at taking pics. It'd be awesome if I could learn a few more things about it before El Minip gets here. And, no, I will never, ever start my own photography bidness. I just want to get better than snapshots of my chillin.
If you remember what I am talking about, can you send me in the right direction?

ETA: thanks! i signed up!
I posted about this class a while ago, but the blog hasn't been updated since 2008 so I'm not sure if Sarah still does it. I would totally pay a Nestie/Bumpie to teach me how to use my DSLR.
Yep. That's exactly the one. I had boudoirs shot with Jennifer and that must have been how I found it. Thank you! And, damn, they don't do them anymore.
I JUST took a class by a local photographer who was offering this service last weekend and I loved every minute of it. It was a 3.5 hr class and I finally learned how to get off auto mode. It was geared to people just like what you are describing... not wanting to be professional but just wanting to learn how to use the camera. She is going to offer the class again since there was quite a bit of interest and she wanted to keep the class at 5 for hands-on help. She even sent us home with a bunch of step-by-step info and goodies. I highly recommend the class!! Here is a link to her blog describing the class I took and then here is her main website just for reference (sorry that I can't make clicky w/ my mac):

I might be interested in putting something together. If you're interested email me - libbyann@gmail
It probably won't be until the weekend until I have time to sit down and write something out, but it's something I've been tossing around in my head for a few months now!
I would, too!
I am ashamed of the nice DSLR I have and the just-ok pictures I take with it... too lazy to have ever put time into learning.
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
Ooh, so how many nesties will be taking the class with us? We should all meet early for dinner on class nights and make it a GTG!
I guess you have to already own a DLSR? DH an I have been shopping around online (we won't be ready to buy for several more months) - but I'd love to know how to use one in advance. It might even encourage DH to bump up the 'priority level' of the purchase.

For this class, you do have to bring your own DSLR camera. I'm not sure if there are other classes out there where they provide a camera.
count me in! i just signed up.
oh, oh, can one of you send me the info too please? i would love to do this!

I just got an email back from Jennifer Nichols saying that they have no plans to have another class in the near future. They are too busy.
I am going to read up on the informal class!
I would love to take a class like this! I have DSLR but I'm hopelessly stuck in Auto mode. Plus, I would love to know how to take decent photos of DS (and hopefully more babies in the future).
Can someone send me the informal class info?

Libby, can I get on an e-mail list if you decide to hold one of these classes? It would be great to learn from someone who does kid/baby photos all the time!
