I am going to play it by ear. I have a very high pain tolerance but I have no idea what I am going to experience. I do not have any problem with drugs but if I do not need them that would be even better.

This. Just dilating to a 5 sucked so I can only imagine if I went the whole thing without any epidural. I hurt just thinking about it.
My well-meaning friend told me that they Holy Spirit would guide me through labor and I didn't need any drugs. I told her God created doctors who created epidural so I could deliver without too much pain therefore God created epidural for me thankyouverymuch.
I voted "intended to go drug free but ended up w/ a c-section" but it was sort of an emergency c-section too. I did labor drug free for about 30 hours, mostly at home w/ DH and a fabulous doula. Sadly, Cooper never dropped because his cord was wrapped around his neck 4 times and he was not handling labor well so he had to come out the emergency exit.
My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!
I only planned to go drug-free because everyone told me horror stories of what happened to them or someone they knew after getting an epidural. They scared me out of wanting one.
After only dialating to a 7 about 18 hours after my water had broken my nurses told me lots of good stories about people who had epidurals and convinced me to get one so my body could relax and dialate.
This next one will be a planned epidural for sure!
I planned for an epidural my entire pregnancy, but didn't have time for it. I received pain meds when I was 1 cm and then rapidly progressed to 10. I just remember the exhaustion of pushing but not the pain, and normally I am a wimp when it comes to pain.
Always planned to have drugs (was convinced I would have a huge baby and a c-section actually) and BARELY had time to get the epidural. I went from zero to fully dilated so fast and the pain of those contractions was more than I ever imagined so I don't want to know what feeling the rest would have felt like.
I have two responses. With O I had no real plan, got the epidural, hated it. I did not like losing feeling in my legs.
So, I went drug-free (mostly) with C. I needed pitocin to speed labor up due to dangerously high bp which made things extremely painful. I begged for an epidural when I couldn't take the pain any longer. I felt her start crowning as I sat on the edge of the bed getting the catheter placed. They laid me down and I pushed her out in the next 5 minutes, before I had a chance to lose any feeling. I swore when it was over that if I had a 3rd (no plans for that) I would not go drug free again, but looking back now I'd probably give it another shot.
I planned for an epidural if things got bad. I did not get one for the first 3 hours or so but then I started getting back labor pains and wanted to stay on top of that.
I wanted to deliver vaginally but Tyler had other plans. I did not dialate at all and even with poticin and breaking my water. I was 1 whole freaking centimeter from the day before!
I ended up with an emergency c-section after 10 hours of nothing plus my heartrate went up drastically when he landed on my siatic nerve.
#1 planned to go drug free if possible. Gave in at about 8 cm and was glad I did because I pushed for 2 hours...
#2 planned for the epi because it was so great the 1st time... and guess what? It didn't work.... I ended up with a drug free birth.. However, they finally got it to work AFTER she was born.. A lot of good that that!!!
Planned for an epidural, got it soon after walking in for induction (was 5cm for weeks). Loved it and would get it again. The IV was harder than the epidural.
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!
BFP with no treatment!
I got an epidural and it partially worked. Too bad the side it didn't work on was where I had horrible back labour. My doctor even had to give me a shot when I was getting my stitches because I could feel it and I hit that damn button for the drugs more times than I care to count.
Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

I planned to go drug free but the piticin kicked my butt so I broke down and got the epidural and then ended up with a c-section
I actually blame the pitocin and epidural for the c/s b/c once I got the epi all progress stopped. Looking back now I should have stood my ground and refused the pitocin (I questioned it) b/c I was in active labor and progressing and having contractions but they didn't think the contractions were strong enough. Personally I think they were just trying to hurry me up since it was right after Ike and L&D was packed.
I'm a SS. Planned for a nice, long comfy delivery with epidural and went mostly natural (15 minutes with an epidural to delay delivery). I'll likely go without drugs completely this time...assuming there's a doctor available to delivery my baby.
DS#1: planned to go natural. labored drug free for 17 hours until it became obvious that a c-section was in my future. got the epidural and hated it. it gave me horrible shakes to the point i didn't know how they were going to cut me open.
DS#2: was attempting a natural VBAC but after 4 hours of labor it was clear my children prefer extraction to birth. the epidural was better the 2nd time but i still got really cold and had the shakes.
i would go natural again in a heart beat. i was in pretty crazy labor (pitocin labor, which is way worse than regular IMO, but i wasn't dilating past 8 so they were trying to get me to 10) but that was still preferable to the way i felt with the epi, esp the 1st time.
Planned for an epidural with #1, was at 5 when I got to the hospital so thought I would skip it - dh and his mom talked me into getting it anyway and I'm glad I did because I only felt a few contractions and they weren't as bad as I thought they would be and then I was able to laugh through the next two hours til he was here.
Planned the same for #2 - it was an induction and I got it shortly after the doc broke my water - I never felt a contraction.
I didn't have any side effects though and my legs were never totally numb feeling - I still had control if that makes sense, I could tell pull them back to push and was up very shortly after delivery.

this was me too. I actually got up, went to the bathroom and took a shower within an hour of giving birth (the first time)...
I planned to go drug-free with hypnobabies. I was 5 1/2 when I got to the hospital and I probably could have made it it if it weren't for the excruciating back labor. If Tracey didn't break my tail bone she bruised the ever living hell out of it. I would have liked to stay on the epidural for about a week if I could I was in so much pain. (Yeah, I know I shouldn't scare you with that!)
It was only about 6 hours from arriving to delivery.
Successful (planned) natural birth. My water broke around 7:30 PM. Labored at home for until 6:30 AM or so. Arrived at the birth center around 7:30 AM, was already fully dilated and effaced. Pushed for 30 minutes, and Cameron came out (surprise breech presentation) at 8:32 AM.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat, although I hope #2 comes out head first!
With the older girls I planned for epidurals and had no problems with them.
With Tori, I planned to try for a natural birth since I had such easy labor and delivery with both girls and was at 5 cm when labor began. That all fell through when my labor stalled and they administered Pitocin. I was still doing ok, but I asked for something to take the edge off. They gave me Stadol, which may me unable to concentrate, focus, or even talk. I couldn't focus to get through the pain, so I had an epi. If I had known how close I was to the end I would never have done it. They were telling me it was time to push before the epi even kicked in.... so basically I had made it 99% of the way with no epi. I was pretty down about that.
Planned for an epidural way earlier than I actually got it. I progressed so quickly that I was at a 9 before they actually administered it. (ordered it at a 6 and literally 3 minutes later I was a 9) The pain was unbelievable so I'm glad I got the epi, even if it was late, because I know it helped me push. Like pp, I wasn't fully numb but it took the edge off and I could feel when I needed to push. I will shoot for the epi sooner next time around...lol.

#1 - Planned the epi and got it. HATED it for how I felt after delivery. I was so sore and in a lot of pain because I truly think I pushed too hard and too soon but didn't know better because I couldn't feel a thing.
#2 - 100% natural and loved it. It hurt like holy hell but withing 20 minutes of delivery I was walking around and feeling like a million bucks.
If we have #3 I will go natural again. So much better.
