What size handbag do you need so that it can double as a diaper bag? It is time for me to get a new bag and I want to try to get something that is all in one but I have no idea what I would need to carry for the baby except the obvious, diapers.

Re: Handbag as a diaper bag
It depends on how much stuff you regularly keep in a purse, but here is what I carried in my diaper bag (although this was almost 5 years ago, so i may forget something):
I always carried an extra onesie, socks( he always seemed to loose one), burb rag/cloth, formula, bottle, water bottle, gerber puffs (when he was old enough to eat them), baby sun screen, wipes, diapers, antibaterial stuff and one of those little first aid kits.
Mine isn't all that large, but all I really carry is a cloth diaper, wetbag, wipes... toddler socks, a toy or book, maybe a spare onesie or sleeper. OK, that's a lot, but my purse is only large, not huge. But basically if you feel comfortable carrying a really big purse, then get that!
I have to say, it also depends on what kinds of trips you're making. I'm rarely somewhere that I can't get back to my car relatively easily so I don't carry spare clothes for DD with me I just have some in the car. And if I'm out for a long day the extra diapers are in the car and only 1-2 in my bag.
When DD was little there is no way I could have travelled with just my purse. I carried a ton of stuff. This kid is lucky if I remember to bring a diaper for him
Oh, and my stuff is pretty much all in the side zipper pocket of my purse - wallet, checkbook, some chapsticks and random junk. If it was just me I could carry a very small purse.
I have never carried a true diaper bag (though admittedly we use DD's school backpack a lot these days). I just bought a new bag that will hold everything I'll need.
For a little one 0-6 months I'll carry:
3-4 diapers, wipes, a burp cloth, hooter hider/muslin blanket, a small toy and an extra outfit. I have a bag I plan to leave in the car just in case with a basic onesie, extra wipes/diapers and outfits for both kiddos. I just don't need to haul that much with me in most cases and a small bag is so much more manageable for me.
