I can't be the only one

Last week we were in Disney World and got asked a million times how old DD is.  I told everyone she will be 2 this week and we got a lot of 'wow, shes really big' comments.  My child is probably below the 50th percentile for weight at this point and is probably below the 75th percentile for height.  She has all of her teeth except 2 two year molars and she has a ton of hair so maybe that makes her seem bigger.  I'm just annoyed that I get dirty looks from people who assume my tantruming child is too old to be tantruming.  It makes me want to make her a shirt that says "I just turned 2" or something like that.

  • Heck, even if she looks 3 she's still young to be having tantrums/outbursts/etc.

Try not to worry about what they may or may not be thinking!

  • I get the opposite. DD is tiny, and people don't think twice about letting me know that. It never fails.

  • We have a similar problem at home.  DD is almost 3 and getting into the defiant age.  I think DH forgets that she's not as old as her brother b/c she has tons of hair and talks so well.  he is so hard on her sometimes when his reasoning (4 y/o reasoning) isn't working with her.

  • I get the opposite.  People ask how old my daughter is and say geez, she's tiny.  She's in like the 25th percentile for height.  People must have monsters for children/grandchildren that ask these questions, or vice versa for your situation.

  • I think people just don't have any idea how big a kid is supposed to be for any particular age.  DS has ALWAYS been in the 10th percentile for weight and 25th for height, but people can never decide if he's big or small for his age, probably because he was born with a mop of hair that never disappeared.

  • YES! DD is in the 90th percentile for both height and weight so she definitely looks older than 2...more like 4. People come up and ask her questions and when she doesn't respond like an older child would, I have to explain that she's only 2! She has a ton of hair too, so maybe it's that?

  • My daughter is the opposite. She is very tiny for her age. I felt the same way when people kept asking me if I dyed her hair when she was 1.5, but I just told them no and went on with my business.
  • We've had that problem since DS was born.  He has always been in the 90th percentile for his height and 50th for weight.  People always ask why he isn't doing this or that yet.  When I tell him his age they say "Oh, he's huge!".
