Yeah, Canyon Grille is great, we went there for our post-civil-ceremony dinner. Tanner Station in Andover is awesome too. Other faves in the Twin Cities include Cafe Ena and El Meson, Cupcake, Big Ten subs, Town Hall Brewery, and Truffles & Tortes.

Paninos - I know they have a couple locations, but they are a locally owned placed, and so yummy
House of Wong in Roseville - huge variety of food, large portions and the best lo mien (imho) around
That's all I am thinking of that hasn't already been mentioned. All of my choices are family friendly, because, well, we don't get out much without Liv anymore, lol

I haven't been to Tanner's yet...we don't live in C.o.o.n. Rapids anymore, but we're in the area pretty often. I've heard they are good. I also want to check out Paddy Wagon's Irish Pub
Re: Favorite local restaurant (non chain)?
Pablo's in Shakopee has good Mexican.
Saffron in Minneapolis. The head chef was even recently on Iron Chef America on the Food Network.
Ichiban (technically a chain, I think, since there are three or four locations) in Minneapolis.
