2nd Trimester

am i being to picky on shower dates?

I have 2 sets of friends, my sister-in-law, and mom that are all throwing separate showers for me.  My due date is early September and the idea of any showers in August makes me nervous, not having time to get all the things we still need, and what if baby comes early.  My friends have set showers for June and July, but My mom insists on August.  Do you think I am stressing over nothing?  When are your showers?

Re: am i being to picky on shower dates?

  • I do think you are being a bit picky.  If all 3 were to be held in August, I would understand more, but you're having one a month all summer!  That sounds awesome!

I am due at the end of August and my shower is the middle of July.

  • No I am the same way. I just want time to put everything together and buy the remaining stuff we need. I am having a shower in early August and I am due mid October.

I would just explain your rationale to your mom and see if you can make it earlier.

Agreed! I am also due at the end of August and my last shower is mid July. I figure if we don't get what we need by that time I can always ask DH or my mom to help finish picking everything up and setting up the room for me if baby does come early.

  • I had 5 showers (all smaller but yes it's a ton.) My church threw me one at 29 weeks, my in laws friends threw me one at 32, family one at 34, work at 36 and my mom threw a family one for our side at 38. The ONLY downside to the 38 week one was it was at my house and I was SOO tired and didn't want to clean. But getting things later is still fine- you might be off work and have some time to get things returned, put away and time for more shopping. I don't think 36 weeks is too late.

  • I would say August (earlier the better) should be fine.

I had my shower for DS exactly a month before my due date...

  • With DS I went into labor early and my shower was 12 days before we had nothing ready so I understand your thinking which is why this time even though we were offered a couples shower we are doing a sip and see I cant handle the anticipation and in August (DS was due sept 29th) IT WAS SO HOT and uncomfortable :(

  • I had my shower at 34 weeks and ended up delivering at 38, but I had everything ready.  I would think having 3 showers there shouldnt be too much more you need.  But if you go through everything from the June and July shower and put it all away then when the August shower comes along you will have an idea of what you still need (can even have a list) and stuff that you get at the August shower you can just cross off your list.  Get that stuff put away and then shop for the rest (my mom and I made a full day of shopping for the rest of the stuff I needed).  As long as your shower is early August and you stay organized after the June and July showers I think you will be fine.

I am having the baby in mid-August and my showers will all be in June or July.  I have to admit, the late July shower makes me a bit nervous about time but, that was when the hostesses calendars were open so that is the date we picked.

  • Also, with your mom insisting on August, is there a chance there is an out of town relative coming and thats the best time for them to make it?

  • When in august are we talking?  If it's the first week or two, you should be fine.  I'm due Sept 6th, and my last shower is July 31st.  When I was asked what dates worked for me, I said I would prefer to stay out of August, but would not have objected if thats what worked for the hostesses.

  • I'm due July 23rd and having my one and only shower on June 12th.  That is what worked best for all my friends and family that I wanted to make sure would be able to make it.  Plus, my husband and I have bought all the big stuff that we need, so if I had her early we would only need to pick up a few of the smaller things.....

I don't see anything wrong with having a shower in August when you are due in September, especially considering the fact that you are also having one in June and one in July.
