2nd Trimester

right sided rib pain

Hi,

I'm at 26 weeks and I'm getting a little worried - I have had right sided rib pain on and off for weeks. I just assumed it was normal until I just now googled it...and came across gallbladder problems. I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday, thankfully, but I'm wondering has anyone had gallbladder issues during pregnancy and if so, what is it like? Worried about this.

Re: right sided rib pain

  • I hope it's not your gallbladder, googling medical things can be dangerous. It's good you have a doc appt coming up though. Good luck, I hope it's nothing too serious.

  • Lurking from 3rd tri...but I just went to the doctor a week ago and asked him about my right sided rib (and back) pain. He told me that more than likely it's my gallbladder. Does your's hurt in your back in the same place as the front pretty much? He told me to avoid greasy foods since that usually triggers it, but I've found that EVERYTHING triggers it! Mine didn't start until about 25 weeks or so! Good luck!

Yeah - I know (re: googling). It could be any of a variety of things, but gallbladder stuff scares me the most.

Yes (re: my back). At first, I thought it was my bra causing problems. It does seem to get worse each day after I eat lunch. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. What did your doctor say re: treatment of it?

I have had that in my left side for months. My doctor at first thought it was just indigestion but it happens lots when I haven't eaten for a couple hours as well. A nurse told me it could be a sign of early preclampsia because I am showing other signs too. They scheduled me for a second ultrasound and doing some other tests tomorrow so we shall see. I have been complaining of it for a while and I still have no answers. It could be your muscles stretching. Or you might have pulled something and you could be moving a certain way that triggers it. I'll let you know if I get any answers with my results on Friday! Good luck!
  • He didn't really go over treatment! He said he sees a lot of pregnant women develop gallbladder problems during their pregnancy that subsides once they give birth. I don't know how that's possible, but I'm really hoping he's not just saying that!! I'm just supposed to watch what I eat, avoid greasy foods and chocolate! I'm having a hard time with the chocolate...that's been my biggest downfall this pregnancy!!

ETA: sorry I thought I hit quote...I know how to do that, I promise Big Smile
