has your LO had an ear infection? come in

Just wondering if you could tell me the symptoms?

DS has been waking up at least 10 times a night for the past few nights, and I noticed that today he was playing with his one ear a lot.

He hasn't had a fever and has seemed relatively cheerful otherwise. Although sometimes he pulls away from his bottle and whines.

Of course I'll call my doctor tomorrow to ask if tonight is a repeat of the previous evenings. I'm just curious if there are any other symptoms

  • Yup, sounds like one to me.  They don't have to be "sick" all the time to get an ear infection.  Mason was waking up non-stop at night and crying.  I would have to rock him back to sleep.  He was pulling at his ear and pulling away from the bottle/breast.  So, I would go and have it checked out.

  • She had an ear infection and no fever. She never pulled at her ears either. She just started with a cold and started to have a bad cough for more than 7 days and it was very juicy. She also pulled away from the bottle.  When I brought her to the dr.'s they said she had an ear infection. Sometimes its just so hard to tell. Good luck!

DS had the same symptoms as your LO...I took him to the pedi and it turnd out he has a cold and a slight fever due to teething.  I was convinced he had an ear infection but my pedi said his ears were perfect.  I know w/ ear infections the pain comes in waves and is very intense, worse at night and lying down.  Some other signs could be banging or shaking his head, and ear infections usually spring up after a cold or infection.  I would make an appointment w/ your pedi to be sure.
