Alabama Babies

We are supposed to go to Gulf Shores next week...

Some friends of ours have rented a beach house and invited us to go with them for the weekend.

We were really excited because it will be the first time that Kennedy has been to the gulf. (She's been to both the Atlantic and the Pacific already.)

But, now I'm wondering if we should go. I hadn't thought about air quality issues until the previous post. The rental house is near Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores and is on the beach. It doesn't have a pool, so basically we would have to stay on the beach or find somewhere with a pool to go to. (I'm not too concerned about not getting in the water because I don't want to be outside with K too long anyways.)

Would you go? Or cancel? Gulf Coast girls... should we worry about air quality at all? And are there any children's museums or parks/playgrounds near Gulf Shores that would be fun for an active 1-year-old?

  • Air quality is fine right now and will most likely be for the next couple of weeks.

It's once the oil hits the shore and begins to bake in the sun and the wind starts carrying the smell that the air quality will really be an issue.  They're mostly worried about it starting next month and through the hot summer months.

  • The Gulf Shores Zoo is great!
  • I think you'll be just fine to come.  My baby will be here :)  There's the zoo, and the state park/bike trail is pretty.
