BF momma's returning to work

Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone has some experiences to share about returning to work without weaning.  I don't the DD or I are ready yet, and I don't want to make the transition any harder than it already is.

I guess my two specific issues are 1. should I allow her to continue overnight feedings 2. should I stop daytime nursing prior to going back to work?

Any stories/expereinces would be very helpful. TIA

Re: BF momma's returning to work

  • I am heading back next week and will continue to nurse until he is a year (so 3 more months). My plan is to continue to nurse him at night if he wants it (right now it is 2 times at night). I will nurse him in the morning, he will have 3 bottles of BM at daycare and then I will nurse him before dinner and when we put him down to bed.

I didn't stop daytime nursing at all. He will still be getting the bulk of his feedings from nursing during the week. On weekends I will nurse him every feeding.

When my friend returned to work her LO increased the nightime feedings because she missed the closeness with her mommy. So maybe just be prepared for that.

  • We are going through this right now as I am back to work in 6 weeks.  So far my plan is to eliminate daytime feedings with a sippy of formula (and transition to milk at 1 year).  I want to keep the morning and evening feeds for as long as DD would like.  I was also planning on eliminating the 1 night time feeding but DD seems to be pushing that back to later and later each night so I think I'm going to see where that goes first.
