  • I'm under the assumption that they never stop crying. Correct me if I'm wrong?Stick out tongue

  • LOL I know they never stop crying completely - but it seems like I don't really see 8 month old babies just crying non stop for hours.

My baby is either crying, eating, or sleeping.  I'm just wondering when they start having more periods of calm and awake time than screaming and awake time during the day.

I think I might have overstated the screaming part...he doesn't do that often, just normal crying. He doesn't have colic - it's normal for babies to cry on average 2-3 hours a day.  He also spends a ton of time sleeping, so that's probably right on for us.

It just seems like the only way he really stops crying is sleeping.

  • i know what you mean my DS seems to do the same: cry, eat, sleep ( oh and poop) :) anyway i think with DD it was around 2 months or so that she had more awake time without crying so much.

  • After reading your other replies on this thread, I THINK I get where youre going with this question...maybe haha....

When we first brought DS home, he basically slept ALL THE TIME..When he would wake up he would pout/cry to be fed or changed and then go back to sleep fairly quickly..As he's gotten older, he sleeps less during the day. Don't get me wrong he still cries, but as he's gotten older, I can tell WHY he's crying. More importantly, I can tell when he's crying because he needs a nap.....So, conclusion (haha) I feel like for the past month or so all of the times when I've been thinking "OMG why won't he stop crying? What more can I do?"---it has been because he is tired. Now that he's getting regular naps, we have much more happy/play time.

Hope this answers your question!! :)

me, too. DS hardly ever cries-- usually it's only when I haven't whipped my breast out fast enough for him or when I am changing his diaper when he really wants to be eating. In total, I'd say he cries for about 10-15 mins/day.

Same here! Though I have a cuddle bug so he doesn't like to be alone for to long.

  • 7 Weeks was a turning point for DD. Up until then she made me question just what I'd gotten myself into! lol She's gotten better and better as the weeks have gone by. I just hope it continues!

  • Matthew only cries when he first wakes up or is hungry. He wakes up crankier than cranky. Huge frowning face for the first 5 minutes he is up. I would like him to be awake more during the day but I am sure as soon as that happens I will be wishing he slept more.

  • With my son I found the 3 month mark was finally when he was not either "eating/sleeping/pooping/crying" and he was a super happy baby. It just gets better from 3 months on. At 6 months it was very unusual for him to cry unless he was really really tired!

That's so funny becuase literally the day after I wrote this thread it's like a switch flipped and DS started staying awake without crying.  He's just turned 7 weeks old!
