I'm having some people over for a dinner party on Thursday and I'm going to serve lasagna and salad. DH keeps making fun of me for just serving a big bowl of lettuce and salad dressing. So, now I'm trying to figure out what to put on this salad to make it more fancy...but I need help!
Please inspire me, TIA!
(FWIW, I don't like craisins)
Re: NTR: What do you put in salad besides lettuce?
mine is everything but the kitchen sink!!!!!!1 lol
i put chick peas, kidney beans, feta cheese, olives, beets, radishes, tomatoes, sometimes hard boiled egg, sliced almonds, and perdue short cut chicken, corn , and croutons.
ditto this. My favs are shredded carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, maybe some dried apple shavings.
carrots, croutons, and cheese. (I like it simple.)
ETA: When in doubt, go with Ceasar. lol

Aside from the usual cucumbers/tomatos, you can put olives and feta cheese for a 'greek' spin; or things like avocado, nuts (walnuts, pine nuts, etc.), grapes, orange pieces, pineapple, proccuto or ham, cheese (shreded chedder, crumbled gargonzola, blue cheese, etc.)
Shredded carrots
Celery
Cheese (feta, mozzarella, good parm, pretty much anything)
Tomatoes
Olives (we like Kalamata)
Bell Pepper
Cucumber
Onion (we prefer Green Onion)
Avocado
Beans (we use all kinds of different ones, canned, drained and rinsed first)
Sunflower seeds (or another nut, Walnuts and Cashews are awesome in salads)
I have a salad I make that has apples, corn, black beans, cheddar cheese, avocado, tomatoes and chicken in it...it's awesome.
We always use a microgreen mix, spinach and/or romaine (very little iceberg lettuce happens in salads here).
Salads are great as they really are a blank canvas. If you are picky or your guests are picky there is always the option of a "salad bar" style salad as well. Just put out a bunch of different salad fixings and let people make their own!
mixed greens
Emerald sugared walnuts
green apple
pear
craisins (or skip those if you don't like them)
halved grape tomatoes
cubed or small pieces of fresh mozzerella or some other kind of cheese like feta
Stonewall Kitchen Maple Balsamic dressing
Ditto everybody on the items.
But is it possible for you to put the added ingredients in separate bowls so that they may make it how they like it? It would probably require some extra room but some people may not like tomatoes or some allergic to nuts. That is what I usually do bc I know DH does not like tomatoes, so I would not put it in the salad knowing that he does not like them. KWIM?
how about grape tomatoes, slivered almonds or chopped walnuts, black olives, shredded carrots, shredded cheese, diced apples/pears... depends on what flavor combos you like.

I can't believe no one has said salami!
I love antipasto salad with salami, provolone cheese and olives. You can also add any veggies you want like onion and tomato.
I put italian dressing or oil/vinegar on this.
