Re: How Many Bottles?

  • It really depends on how much you hate washing bottles, lol.  If you're going to be bottle feeding from a young age ... your baby is going to go through a LOT of bottles each day.  You register/buy according to what you can afford, and how often you mind doing a load of dishes  :)

  • I nursed for the first 6 weeks, but knew I'd be supplementing. We registered for 4, 4 oz. bottles and 8, 9 oz. bottles. I figured I'd use less in the beginning and if I really needed to, I could always use the bigger bottles for the smaller amounts. We used Avent.

Once we were almost fully on formula, we hand-washed all used bottles almost every night, but there were usually one or two leftover from the day that didn't get used. Whenever we would run the dishwasher, we would throw them in there. That was usually once a week.

I definitely don't think you need 20 4oz bottles.  8 would probably do it.  I would rather have more 9oz since you'll use those for a longer period of time.

We are bottle feeding.  I have 13 total, I figure with feedings every 2-3 hours this is a good amount in rotation.  I have 4 of the 4oz and 9 of the 8oz.  I got more of the 8oz since I'll use those longer.
  • Personally if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't get any of the smaller 4oz bottles b/c they only need them for a short time anyway.  I would have just put the 4oz in the 8oz bottle.  With that said we did have about 6 of the 4oz and 7 of the 8oz. We did the drop-ins and my daughter was taking 6 4oz bottles per day so I would just fill 6 bottles up with water so they were ready to go when she needed them and then we dropped to 4 6oz bottles and I did the same thing. If you wanted to stock up on the 8oz bottles you could try to exchange (if they are unopened) and get the bigger ones.  Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

  • I pumped for DS and eventually switched to formula, but suffice it to say he ate from bottles exclusively.  We found 8 bottles to be the perfect number for us, we only had to wash once a day.  We'll have 8 bottles this time as well!
