XP: Update/Vent - Water Contamination

XP from September Mama's...

So, along with my previous post about a main water line break into my city...

I got the message at 4-5 pm when I arrived at work.  The break happened at 10-11 am and they estimate that my area was possibly contaminated by 1-2 pm depending on our household water usage.   There were no fliers, no phone chains, no NOTHING even today (the second day that this has been going on) unless you either check the city website obsessively OR you watch the news between 6-9 pm.

I'm pissed.

Because in that time period between 10 am - 4 pm when I got to work I, well, got up, showered (at 2:30), drank two glasses of water (which I filter in a good, small grade filter), and brushed my teeth (with faucet water).  See where this is going?  The good news is that the only thing I got seems to be a gastrointestinal thing.  The bad news, I have a gastrointestinal thing.  AS IF I don't spend enough time in the bathroom already.  Want more bad news? This is happening over my ONLY two days off before Mother's Day (which I am hosting for my and DH's families) and I have a lot to get done.

Apparently this shouldn't harm baby but I'm still mad because I have kept myself HEALTHY for almost HALF of the pregnancy (and when you work in an ER this means lots of hand-washing, mask-wearing and sanitizer-using) and now I am suffering because the freaking city is to busy paying it's higher-ups in hundred dollar bills so they can shove them up their @sses that they don't have the time, money, or resources to notify us in a timely manner.  If I had known within 4 hours of the event, I would have been able to take precautions.  But apparently that is too much to ask, even though I live TWO BLOCKS from the city's main offices.

I refuse to shower again until this is over.  Y'all can deal with it.

Sorry. Vent. Over.

If you're in the Boston area, be warned.  Or you will be calling up your OB on monday and giving a stool sample in the office... just. like. me.

Re: XP: Update/Vent - Water Contamination

  • I am so glad my town has it's own water supply so I don't have to deal with this.  I decided to work from home until the water is ok - my company is bringing in bottled water, but some people tend to hoard it and I drink so much every day that I am scared I will be thirsty and there won't be any left...
