Alright ladies, I need honest opinions (clicky included)

What do you think of the name Aspen? DH likes Aspen Leigh (spelling of Leigh not set in stone). Last name sounds like Camden. I love Aspen, but I'm afraid it's a bit of a mouth full with our last name. WDYT? Horrible? Or not too bad?[Poll]

Our last name ends in 'an' and for that reason we avoided any first name that ended in the same sound.  It just sounds like too much of the same to me.

When I read your post, I assumed you were having a boy at first.  Aspen does not seem very feminine to me at all.  I definitely think "boy" when I hear it.

I agree with that as well.

  • It doesn't quite sound right to me. Google baby name genie. You can use it just to generate middle names. You might found something that sounds a little smoother.

That's what I'm afraid of. The endings are very similar.

  • Well if she gets married she'll change it BUT I was worried since we end in O all of our options ended in A an AH and E I didnt want it to sound sing song-y KWIM?

Ah, I missed that in the post initially too. I definitely think of it as more of a boy's name.

  • I hate names of places as names of people...sorry.
  • It definitely sounds more  boy to me and I actually like it, but we have good friends with a cat named Aspen, so that's all I can think of!

Maybe it's because I spent time in the Midwest but Aspen is totally a girl name and know a few girls by that name. I think the name is cute!

I think Aspen with a last name that ends in the same sound is actually not that bad. However, I understand where PP are coming from. The way I look at it is your little girl won't have your last name forever.

Not to piggy back too much off of pp but it really does sound like a boy's name.

I always heard it as a girl's name as well. Sounds very feminine imo.

And that's true, she won't always have our last name.

  • I love the sound of Aspen Leigh, but I don't think I like Aspen Camden.  If you kept it as a double name it would be alright though.

I really like Aspen, but I don't think it goes well with "camden". They are kinda hard to say together. IMO
  • I love the name Aspen but not with that last name paired with it. Sorry.

Middle names do break up the sound a little but know that in school people aren't going to call LO but it's full name. It will be Aspen Camden. If you are ok with it then go for it.

Our name ends with "son" so we tried to avoid those names like Mason, Jackson, Carson. There are plenty of great names out there. That being said, name your baby what YOU want!

  • I like it.  I just think...if people were gonna call her a name for short...it can't be hey As.  My name is Kelly, people call me Kel.  Just a thought.  BUT, I do love the name...for boy or girl.

  • Thanks ladies for all the input!
  • My #1 name is Breck (after Breckenridge) so you totally know where I am going! LOVE it, but I did have to scroll back up to see if you said DD or DS, not sure it screams any gender, I think it is pretty! LOVE IT!

  • I like Aspen (I actually think of the trees when I hear it), but I've never liked and have always been warned about having a first and last name that end in the same sound. So I have to say I'm not a big fan of Aspen Camden. Sorry!
  • I live in Colorado so I actually have heard this name quite a bit. Both boy and girl.  I like names that can go w/ either gender but I don't think it sounds good w/ Camden.

I actually like the name Aspen though I'm not crazy about it with Camden (or your actual last name that sounds the same).  I just wanted to point out that your daughter may actually have your last name forever.  I didn't change my name when I got married and your daughter may make that feminist statement as well.
