Parenting after a Loss

My Birth story

Sorry so late...it's been almost 4 weeks! A lot has been going on at our house..and this is the first time I've been free to type!

Ok..here it goes!

My last doctor appointment, April 2nd, I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced.  Monday, April 5th, I started contracting every 8-12minutes...my doctor sent me into triage.  The doctor on call there from my practice sent me home because when they hooked me up to fluids...the contractions slowed to 15 minutes apart, even though I was now 3cm dilated and 90% effaced.  I was very dissapointed and scared because I was supposed to be having a schedule c-section April 12th.  I was afraid of dilating too much and not knowing.  I had all my bags packed and with me..my husband was there and my mom...I had make-up on and my hair done!

Tuesday, April 6th, I at lunch with my mom and went to visit my friend.  I went to the bathroom and had passed a small blood clot.  I wasn't contracting...but I was extremely scared something was wrong.  I didn't even call my OB...I went straight to triage at 3:45pm.  They hooked me up to the monitors and I watched all my contractions...6-7minutes apart...but I only felt like 3 of them.  Go figure...the nurse comes in and says "Call your husband..your baby will be here in the next hour!  The OB wants to do your c-section at 5pm."  Of course...I had none of my bags..all by myself and looked HORRIBLE!  Thank God my husband and mom made it 15 minutes before they rolled me into surgery.  And my dad suprised me and came too!  I was very nervous going into this c-section...and it was my second one.

I got my spinal and they started doing the c-section.  My husband and I were joking and talking.  I all of a sudden couldn't breathe! They were pushing on my stomach and was having a hard time getting baby out! The doctor said "It will be over soon!".  At 5:47pm...baby Anthony William was born...8lbs 1oz 20 inches long!  He was absolutely perfect.  My husband kissed me and went with little Tony back to the recovery room where my parents were waiting.  As I was leaving the OR, one of the nurses wiped a huge blood clot..the size of a baseball!  I asked "Is that normal?"  she said "It's normal to pass blood clots...just not this big!"  I could see the concern on her face!  When I got back to the recovery room, my spinal still fully numbing me, I got to hold my baby boy.  The OB came in and said "Im going to take a look! Dad, please take the baby from mom, Thank you!"  I will never forget those words..because it could have been the last time I saw my baby boy and husband.

All I could see was lots of blood and towels! They kept pushing on my stomach and massaging it.  They made my whole family get out!  They gave me 3 bags of pitocin through an IV, Hemabate and some other shot.  All were supposed to make my uterus contract! The OB, after about 10 minutes...finally said.."Your hemmoriaging and we have to get you back in the OR to do a DNC and blow a balloon up in your uterus to stop the bleeding!"  My husband and mom were crying and my poor baby girl, Skyler was crying because she didn't know what was happening!   They did the DNC and blew the balloon up in my uterus!  When I came back to the room, my husband wouldn't leave my side and kept crying.  He kept saying " You almost died.  Don't ever scare me like that!"  I said, "No I didn't!"  But my nurse said, "It was very serious what happened and yes...I could have died!"  That night, because of all the uterin contraction meds they gave me, I went into full blown labor!  I cried all night!  They couldn't give me pain meds because they would thin my blood and make me bleed!  My husband was told by the OB that they would have to do a hysterectomy if they couldn't stop the bleeding! I'm SO thankful they didn't have to.

My blood count was low the next day...so I recieved 2 blood transfusions! I stayed in the hospital for 4 days!  I also was told that I have something called Uterine Atony...where the top half of my uterus was contracting but the bottom was like a wet paper bag!

I am so thankful that God was watching over me and my family! Even though I went through all of this during my delivery...I still want another one!  My family thinks im crazy, but the OB said worse case scenario...because they can be prepared next time...I'll just have to get a hysterectomy after delivery!
