Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What was your 1st period like??

Hey ladies..sneaking over from 0-3 figuring more of you have been thru this. I believe i just started my period again (6.5wks). I started spotting for two days but wasnt sure if it was from all the walking i have done lately or cause DH & i had sex 3 nights before. Then sat i woke up with the cramping & heavier bleeding...same yesterday. This morning it seems even heavier...like everytime i get up, i can feel that gush. Does this sound normal? Its a pretty heavy flow! I am a very paranoid person & am afraid that it isnt my period & something is wrong!! THanks

Re: What was your 1st period like??

  • My first one was exactly 2 months after DS was born and it was very normal flow wise...but looooong.   My second one was HORRIBLE.  VERY heavy flow and lots of cramping.   It SUCKED!

  • The first three periods sucked heavy and painfull! then the fourth one I could hardly tell I had it to present day...
  • So a heavy flow is normal? like changing a pad every 2 hrs i usually wear tampons). I actually just change my pad everytime cause i cant stand sitting in it. BLAH!!! When people say soaking thru a pad, do they mean like leaking thru the entire thing?

We took a discharge class before leaving the hospital & ofcourse the woman told us this story about her daughters bridesmaid who had postpartum hemmoraging 4 wks after giving birth&almost died. That is now all i can think about!!  I always assume something is wrong...but im a 1st time mom & dont know what its supposed to be like.

  • Mine was very very heavy. I made the mistake of trying tampons and it was a no go. 1 Super plus would last about 30 minutes at most. I also had horrible cramping. If you are worried I would call your OB just to ease your mind!
  • I just had my first PP period (15.5 weeks) and it was WAY heavier than what I am used to.  I didn't have horrible cramping, but I was soaking through a super tampon after about 2 hours.  I used to only have to use the lite and regular absorbancy tampons for my entire period.  I think heavy flow is normal, but if you are concerned, it doesn't hurt to call your doctor.  Better safe than sorry, I say.

  • I have had two periods so far since DD was born.  They have both been really short and light.  Before DD my periods were always heavy and I had really bad cramps.  Since DD they are totally opposite.  I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

  • I had my first pp period last week and it was super light, like two days long...

  • I had my first pp period maybe 5-6 weeks out, and it was so heavy I literally thought I was dying. (but the super heavy scariest part only lasted maybe a day and a half) It was almost as bad as right after Lilly was born. Luckily I still had some of the super-duper pads from the hospital and those worked great. I mean it was SUPER heavy. But every period since then has been slightly lighter and shorter than pre-pregnancy ones. I think in this situation everything is normal because we're all different :)

  • Pre-baby, I also had miserable cramps and heavy, long periods. Post-baby, I've only had one period; it was heavy but nothing like the postpardum bleeding. No cramps either. I was expecting way worse.

That's crazy how different our bodies can be!

  • In one word, my first PP period was horrific. The flow was extremely heavy and the period lasted for close to 2 weeks. Thankfully, my 2nd PP period was much better although each PP period so far has still been heavier than they were pre-pregnancy.

yep I had similar concerns but it seems like a heavy first pp period is very normal.  it sucked but it should pass in a few days.
