UPPAbaby Vista vs. Peg Perego Skate

These are my top two choices, but I am leaning more toward the Peg Perego because the bassinet converts into the toddler seat (rather than having to store two separate pieces), the seat adjusts to a few different heights, it can be folded with the seat still on, it seems to have all the same bells and whistles as other strollers, and because it is sold locally and I've been able to test it in person. No retailers sell UPPAbaby in my area so if I were to buy it, it would be sight unseen.

Although I see the UB Vista mentioned a lot on this board, I rarely see anything about the PP Skate. Does anyone own the Skate and have pros and cons to share? Or is there a reason why the Skate gets passed over a lot in favor of the UB, Bugaboo, or similar brands?

TIA for your input, ladies!

The new 2010 Skate has two separate pieces - meaning the toddler seat doesn't convert into the bassinet.

I personally HATE the Skate - it is too heavy, doesn't push well, doesn't fold well, has a horrible bassinet.  Overall, the 2009 model is just not well made at all - great in theory but Peg did not execute the first generation model very well.

Have you seen both of them in person?

I have the UB vista and LOVE it.  The push is amazing, the basket is huge, the bassinet can be used in the house (the new 2010 Peg bassinet can be used this way as well), it folds easily, and doesn't take up much space at all.  It is also pretty light weight.

I would say, don't make a decision until you can get your hands on both models and test them out.  Just realize, like I mentioned above, if you want the one seat that changes converts between a bassinet and toddler seat you need to go with the old model that is SO flawed.

I've only seen the Skate in person since the Vista is not sold in my area. However, I did not know that the 2010 Skate had a separate bassinet and toddler seat...my main reason for wanting it was I thought it was still one piece like the 2009 model (we don't have a lot of storage space). Great information, thank you. Looks like we may be making a 3-hour road trip to see the Vista. :)

  • I have only seen the Skate in person once, and it looked nice. Uppas and Bugs are way more common in my area. And truthfully, I don't think I would consider it because you have to get the Peg infant seat and I wanted the Chicco.

The Bug requires fabric swapping, though. It's $$$ than the Uppa, and doesn't come with the bug net and rain shield like the Uppa does.

I do feel ya on the space issue...we got out Uppa yesterday and it's huge in our urban apartment. But, the bassinet stores flat so once we are done using it we can store it fairly easily.

  • we looked at the skate and it was way too heavy (much heavier than the uppa baby and bugaboo). we ended up going w/ the bugaboo chameleon after testing all of the ones you mentioned (and more). We liked that we didn't have to store a separate part (we liked that you use the same frame for both bassinet and seat).

  • It was between the Bugaboo Frog and Vista for us, the Vista won out.

  • I have a friend who chose the Skate over the Vista and the Orbit. She really like the bassinet feature as well as it fit her frame so much better than the Vista. She is on the petite side and the Skate was her preference. She didn't think the weight was an issue and she's a tiny gal. She has had it for awhile and likes it. I think more people would get one if it was easier to find honestly.

I couldn't have said it better ... ultimately, it was between these two strollers for us too, particularly because of the bassinet. We ended up with the VISTA ... I couldn't agree more ... the skate was just WAY too heavy ... it really makes a difference when you're having to lug it in and out of your vehicle ... way too heavy for me.
