Okay Huntsville girls I could use your help. I'm trying to wade through the bazillion OBs that are in this area so I could use your recommendations. It can be who you love, used, heard great things about or even hate. I just need to start interviewing and get in for my check up and settle in.
Also which Hospital did you deliver at? Have to choose that to.. and are there any extra Lamaze or Bradley classes out there?
TIA
Re: HSV Recomendations
My OB practice is actually in Madison...it's OBGYN-Associates...they also have a practice in Decatur (where I grew up) and I have been using them since I began seeing a gyno. I have no complaints.
I delivered at Huntsville Hospital. I had a great experience, they explained everything they were doing the whole entire time. I ended up having a c-section and that experience was good as well. My nurses were fabulous.
My one and only tiny complaint were the nursery nurses. In the mornings I would get up when the nurse would come in and do her morning check and I would go take a shower. It never failed, the nursery nurses were bringing her to me right at 7am, when my nurse was coming to do the morning checks, and I kinda felt like they could have let me get a shower first...I mean it wasn't like I was trying to leave her in the nursery all morning I just wanted 30 minutes to get ready for the day. My husband told them this the first morning but they did it the other two days we were there as well.
Also on our last day there one of the nursery nurses came to get her to take her to get a test run (at the time they didn't tell us what test- turns out it was a billirubon level check). They said they'd bring her right back afterwards....like over an hour later she wasn't back and I was very worried something was wrong. We took a walk down to the nursery and there she was...instead of bringing her back to us like they told us they had just took her back to the nursery.
Both of these things are tiny things. Like I said everything else I loved about HH.
As for classes both HH and Crestwood offer good classes as well as a place called A Nurturing Moment which is on Airport Road.
I go to the Clinic for Women and I love it. I started off seeing Dr. Warren but he no longer does deliveries (he says he is too old for it) so now I see Dr. Rushing and he is wonderful.
As far as the hospital goes, we will be delivering at Huntsville since they have the NICU. I couldn't imagine being at Crestwood and them having to take my baby to Huntsville and me not be able to see him.
I see Dr. Delisle at Clinic for Women - I love the clinic - when you're pregnant you go thru a rotation of all the doctors there because who ever is on call when you go into labor will deliver the baby... I didn't mind this at all because all of the doctors there are great. Dr. Wheeler is HILARIOUS - I really liked him when we met last pregnancy. Dr. Delisle is very CLINICAL. His bed side manner is not bad, he's just very professional. I love him though.
As far as delivering, unless there is something expectedly wrong w/ this baby that will require NICU services, I am delivering at Crestwood. I delivered at HH the first time and my experience there was terrible. I had a scheduled C-section and my pre-op nurse was a terrible unsanitary woman. My post partum care was equally bad - like Candi said - the nurses just are so busy, they often forget about you - at least they did with me. I had a catheter in for way too long because my morning nurse never came back to get it removed. MISERABLE
I just want to clarify my problem was with the nursery nurses...not my nurses. My postpartum care was great...I just got aggravated at the nursery ones.
I also go to the Clinic For Women., My Dr. is Dr. Bellmont, but most all of them are great...especially Dr. Wheeler. Love him!
I delivered my first two babies at Huntsville Hospital, but plan to deliver at Crestwood this time. I had fine experiences at HH...nothing major bad happened...everything was fine. My only complaints would be that the nurses busted in my room like 3 or 4 times a night and would turn the lights on and talk loudly. That really bothered me b/c it was hard enough to sleep, but with them doing that, it made sleep impossible. Maybe that would have been different if I had left my babies in the nursery over night, but I had them with me. I also had an experience like Candi mentioned where they took the baby to do something and I didn't see him again for hours. It really irritated me. I've heard that Crestwood is just much more personable...you aren't just a number there. If I had a high risk pregnancy or knew that there was something wrong w/ the baby, I would go to HH b/c of the NICU. Crestwood DOES have a NICU...just not as advanced as HH and they don't have the special beds like HH does.
Crestwood offers free classes also!
