My son just started a couple of weeks ago special ed pre-school. I am running out of ideas on what to pack for his lunch that are high calorie lunches, as he does have weight gain problems due to his heart/lung issues.
I'm looking for ideas that does not require heating up or are cold. He pretty much likes food that are at room-temp.
Any sites or suggestions? TIA ![]()
Re: High Calorie Lunch Ideas Anyone?
This site has some great high-calorie meals. I'm not sure if any are specifically for lunch, but it is a great resource.
https://chunkymonkeymenus.blogspot.com/A few things that we use are corn pasta (higher calories then wheat) avocado, hummus on crackers. We also put oil (olive, avocado) on pasta or veggies to bump up the calories.
Will he eat peanut butter/ sunbutter? Those have decent calories. Will he dip? like give him ranch dressing to dip carrot sticks in?

Here are a few that we do with my bigger (but still FTT) 1.5 year old:
-Wild rice, rosemary, and ham. That'd be okay to send room temperature. Unless there are OT issues. If so, it'd be tricky to eat on his own.
-Quesadillas and guacamole are yummy and loaded...and safer that tortilla chips and guac. I think those would make it without being heated or refrigerated (if you sent a cold-pac along).
-Beans and cheese. yum! You can send the beans whole if there aren't OT issues, if so, puree them up and swirl cheddar cheese inside the beans and on top.
-Bagels or cut up bagel bites with a jelly or cream cheese dip. Cream cheese would be cleaner.
I have to stop. I'm at the hospital and have no food. I'm way to hungry for this post.
