Our tenant is a piece of work...

We had to evict a tenant who hasn't paid her rent since June.  DH went by the place last night and she was still there even though the judge ordered her out by Sunday. 

DH just sent her an email saying that if she is out by the end of the week, he won't call the sheriff to remove her stuff (the next legal step that we can take).  She writes back that she promises to be out by the end of the month.

Seriously?! WTF. You think you should get another month of free rent?  I'd like to have no housing expenses for 4 months too...but alas, life doesn't work that way.

    My dad managed apartments for the last 30 years or so, and it never stops amazing me how people can be.

    I love how your DH says if she is not out by the end of the WEEK that he will have her forcibly evicted and she replies okay sure I promise to be out by the end of the MONTH!!!

    We had tenants who were impossible.  My husband finally told them to get out and fortunately they did.  It's just crazy, I don't understand how people can be so irresponsible.

    It's actually really difficult to evict tenants in Massachusetts, so the fact that the judge gave her 10 days to get out says a lot.  She tried to ask him for more time to come up with a plan and he told her that she had 3 months to save up money and come up with a plan....and she had absolutely no complaints about us a landlords.  That's where a lot of tenants get leniancy in MA.  We did everything by the book.

    Call the sheriff. The longer you drag it out the farther she will push.

    It sounds like your tenant is someone who will take advantage of anybody, regardless of their situation.  I hope you get this all resolved soon and you don't have to deal with the stress too much longer.
