Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Do you know what really kills me about LO not STTN?

It's the unpredictability of it.

Some nights she'll sleep from 11pm through till 6.30 or 7ish.

Some nights she'll wake at 2am or 3am or 4.30am. It's all a bit hit and miss at the moment.

So every night I go to bed with just a small glimmer of hope in my soul that maybe tonight she'll sleep right through.

If I knew for sure that I would be getting up at 2am and 5am then I would go to bed emotionally prepared for that.

It's that little shred of hope, and that horrible feeling when I look at the clock and see that it's 3am, that really kills me.

DD does this a lot. She doesn't quite STTN but some nights she gives much longer stretches than others. What baby giveth, baby taketh away!

  • I feel your pain.  Crying
  • this totally---it is what sucks about infant hood.
  • It's hit or miss with DD, too. This past week she went four nights in a row sleeping from 9pm - 5:30am and it was wonderful. On the 5th night, she woke up 4 times.
  • I do the opposite- I assume I'll be getting up with my son at 3am. When I don't, it is a pleasant surprise! But when I do, it isn't a big letdown... it is business as usual.

Almost as soon as I wrote my post I thought the obvious answer is to change my expectation when I go to bed.

Thanks for reminding me. I'm gonna give it a shot tonight.

  • My daughter does the same thing and it kills me too! The worst thing is when you wake up because your body is now conditioned to and she doesn't until an hour later so you just lay there listening because you know the moment you get comfy again she will wake up.
  • this past week was the first week in Sabrina's 4 months that she woke only once - around midnight - for a feeding. IMO when they're ready, they're ready. hang in there.

Ha! I could have written this. DD is the exact same way. She skipped her last feeding of the night last night, and so far, hasn't woken up around 11 like usual. Last night, she slept from 8-6, straight. Now, if only I weren't an idiot and would go to bed when she did, I might actually wake up well rested one of these days. Oh, and if I could actually sleep instead of waking every 3 hours anyway to go check on her because I can't actually believe she might STTN.
