XP: Sling options

I want to get a sling for LO, but I'm debating on which kind. I know a lot of people like moby wraps, but I'm not a big fan of aaaallll that fabric everywhere. I've been looking at the hotslings brand and they seem to be comfy and up to date with safety, but I'm wondering what else is out there that would be good? Anyone have experience with the ring slings? Also, would you trust a "no name" brand?

Re: XP: Sling options

  • I had a hotsling with DD. I also had a moby (although I didn't get it until DD was a little older). I liked my hotsling ok when she was little (like younger than 2 or 3 months), but after that I never felt like either of us was comfortable with it. I liked my moby a lot better (I know you said you didn't want a moby, I'm just throwing that out there . . ).

  • I have a moby, and once you get yourself wrapped, there's very little fabric hanging. I love it, and can't wait to carry the baby around in it. DH also can't wait to wear it. lol.

The only other baby wearing apparatus that my friend, who has done tons of research on, recommends is the pikkolo.

  • We loved our Hotsling until DD was about 6mos. old.  I had a ring sling as well, but didn't like it very much.

We also have a great WAHM made mei tai & a Patapum which we adore.  We'll be added a woven wrap to the stash this time around.

  • I loved my hotsling with DS#1.  The moby was intimidating and I had DS early in the summer and wearing all that fabric in 110 degrees didnt sound like fun.

I also loved my mei tai and now I'm loving my Ergo which I will grab an infant insert for.

I never liked my ring sling- I always felt like it was slipping and I held DS the whole time anyhow....

  • I have a maya wrap which is a ring sling.  I love it because it can be used up until they are todders and is easily adjustable.  I also have an Ergo, Moby, and mei tei since DD #1 was a fussy baby.  I'm actually getting a backpack carrier for her now since she is still a pain about me not holding her.
  • It took me four babies to find a sling/wrap that I loved - the "baby K'Tan". It has the advantages of a cross carry similar to the Moby wrap, but their isn't so much fabric to deal with - it's already hooked together. And, the best part, for me, was the weight is spread over your back & not shoulders like many slings (I have a really bad back & neck). I was able to carry a good sized baby for about 6-7 months; usually w/my back issues I only get to about month 2.

  • I just heard that all slings were recalled due to suffocation hazards.  A friend told me that yesterday.  I haven't seen the story myself, but figured I would share.  She said that all stores have taken slings off the shelves.  You can probably still get them online.
  • Here is a link to some information on the sling recall. Looks like the recall is for 1 brand only:  https://www.parents.com/product-recalls/baby-slings/

that's wrong. it was one specific sling made by infantino. the government then just made a sweeping comment that "slings are bad" which infuriates me b/c it's not at all true. It was just one crappy brand.

  • Slings.......oh the money I have spent on slings. They look good but once on feel like the baby is going to fall out, or the sling is going to fall off. I was at a baby show walking with my then 2yr old and trying to carry my 9 month old, as they had asked to check all strollers due to space. I came across one booth where this very nice lady was selling slings! once she had my measurements she gave me a sling to try on, and then the light shone upon me.lol. It was snug my baby was very comfortable and I could bend over reach and walk with ease. Enough of my rant here is the website www.pippalily.com There are once peice sized to fit you and very stylish for you and your husband.
  • I have a slingling which I loved, but I have to say it was cumbersome to nurse in. For that reason, I prefer my Moby.

We LOVED our adjustable pouch from www.kangarookorner.com

I liked the idea of a sling/pouch but I didn't want the long tail of fabric hanging down but I wanted to make sure that it would grow with our babies as they got older. Plus it seems like the regular pouches are SO hard to get the right fit/size with. Oh, and I wanted DH and I to both be able to wear the same one.

The adjustable pouch fit all those criteria. We love it. It was good quality and affordable especially since we chose a clearance fabric.

I will also add that we have/had a moby and an ergo and liked both for different reasons.  The moby really isn't bad one you get it all wrapped, but it's not ideal for outtings since it will be dragging on the ground while you wrap yourself.

The ergo is awesome awesome awesome. We had the infant insert with DD2 but I never used it as i used the Moby (both were new) more. But we used it with DD1 who was 2 at the time and DD just wore her last weekend and she's almost 4. It's a REALLY long lasting baby/toddler/preschooler carrier :)

  • I just bought a Lillebaby - EveryWear Carrier from mambargains.com. It has good reviews and is $30 cheaper than elsewhere. Hope it works well when I use it down the line.
  • I had a Moby with DS and barely used it - too much fabric and it was HOT in summer (especially Florida).  I'm 90% sure I'm buying a Mamma's Milk sling after seeing them on The View.

I'm going to use my mostly when out in public or taking neighborhood walks.

    GL!

  • I don't know about many slings but, my mom is getting me a Hot Sling.
