Pregnant after 35

AW: Want to be 'done' and other stuff

So, I need to complain.  I'm 37 now and at 27 weeks.  LO (Ben) is measuring a good week to week and a half ahead.  Which is awesome, because I am DONE.  He moves constantly, and while reassuring, it wears me out so fast.  I sit at work all day and try to remember to get up every half hour or so just to let us both stretch, but am having trouble remembering that.  Is it bad that I want to be not-pregnant anymore and just want him here?  I feel selfish.  Had a meltdown last night which led to DH doing my laundry today.  Not why I melted down, but a nice ending to it, I guess.

Then, there is the issue with the baby shower.  My mom and I do not have the best relationship and she and my sister are MUCH worse.  To the point where my sister may not bring my niece/nephew to the shower b/c mom will be there.  That makes me sad.

Sorry to vent/complain/whine, but I am soooooo tired and DONE!!!

Re: AW: Want to be 'done' and other stuff

  • With my first, I had a really nice, calm pregnancy.  And I STILL was DONE by about 30 weeks!  I think it is only natural and I think every woman feels guilty for thinking it.  Just try to hang in there, it will all be worth it.  As for your shower, I hope they can put their differences aside and allow you to have the celebration you deserve!

  • I am sure that the family drama is not helping...drama like this is very draining, and it's especially difficult if you feel that you're in the middle of it in any way. And with pregnancy hormones on top of it all!

I am expecting No. 3, and the only thing I can think of is (and this may sound annoying...sorry! I think this is your first?), but try to enjoy the last few months of having time to yourself. I think everyone is excited to meet their baby too, which adds to the "done" feeling. And of course, physical discomfort.

But bottom line...give yourself some slack. Don't worry about feeling done, just look at it as being excited to meet your baby! And Try to be as zen as possible about the family drama and remember that other people's behavior is not in your control (I have had plenty of family bologna myself).  You can only try to control your response to it. And while you're pregnant, you deserve to be calm and try to let it roll over you (easier said than done, I know).

  • I am so with you on the being 'done'.  Perhaps you can visit with your sister and her children and have a mini shower without your mom.

  • I hate to say it but I think age definitely plays a part.  I'm 36 and even though I look young and feel young, my body has reminded more than once that I'm not in my 20's anymore.  I've been done for a while too and don't remember feeling this way when I was pg with my dd at age 30.  I'm bad at being pg anyway - I don't like not being able to do things that I normally do and this guy is so low that I'm like a roly poly trying to get off the couch, out of bed, bending over, etc.
  • I am not even far into my second tri and I am not enjoying this at all. I wish I was, but I'm not. I found myself thinking that if I got everything for the baby maybe magically the baby would appear sooner. It would take me a week to get everything I needed, and I thought of how much longer it would make the wait feel so I promised myself I'd only get one thing at a time...

Feels like my first......since DD will be 14 1/2 when LO arrives!!!

  • I'm 37 too. I have had a completely uneventful pregnancy (knock on wood) but I've been done for months. Some people just don't enjoy being pregnant. That is not to say that we won't enjoy being Moms!

Sorry about the shower. I am a really shy person and just hate the whole concept of baby showes. So I'm dreading mine more than I'm dreading labor. It's ok. Hang in there!!!! My husband told me to "embrace" pregnancy and I almost tore his head off :)

  • Baby # 4 I went into false labor 3 times in last 2 wks - the evening after time number three I was very crabby & done grabbed my belly and "yelled" (not really loud) "Get OUT already" - my husband just roared with laughter.
