Postpartum Depression

RP: Prescription sleeping aids...

Are you afraid of becoming dependent on them? How did you quit them?

I've been taking them since December (mostly every night) alongside an anti-depressant for PPD and want to quit at least the sleeping pill even though a side effect of the anti-depressant is insomnia.

I'm afraid of being hooked on them. I've tried to quit, but think too much about it and get a nervous feeling in my stomach and can't fall asleep. I've also tried half a pill which helps me fall asleep some of the time. My doc is aware of my feelings about my sleeping meds and has given me the least addictive one, though they all can be addiciting.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

TIA!

  • Wow--Reid is so stinkin' handsome!!!

Have you tried Sleepytime Tea?  My ADD medication can make it difficult for me to sleep.  I have found that drinking Sleepytime Tea (Celestial Seasoning and you can get it at the Commissary/grocery store) really helped.

I'm sorry that you aren't not sleeping well.  It sucks.  Are you seeing a psychiatrist for your med management?  If you are worried, I would think about seeing a specialist.  When I talked to my psychiatrist about my PPD meds, he said that current research shows that the longer that you stay on your PPD meds, the better it is for you in the long run.  Perhaps a psychiatrist would be more aware of a PPD med that will help you AND allow you to sleep on your own.  Heck, being sleep deprived can contribute to PPD.

    Best of luck to you!
