2nd Trimester

When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

It seems like each day my pants get a little tighter.  I have some shirts/pants in a size bigger than my regular size so that has been helping.  I am wondering how much longer I can make it!  I will probably go shopping for a few items so when that day comes and nothing fits I at least have a few maternity items I can start to wear!

Just out of curiosity when did everybody else start to wear maternity clothes?   This is also my first pregnancy.  : )

Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

  • I'm still not!  At around 11-12 weeks I had to button my pants with a rubber band, but since then my bloat belly has gone down a lot and I have no problem wearing my regular jeans still.
  • Loading the player...
  • I started wearing my belly band at around 14 weeks and had to upgrade to preggo pants last week, so at 22 weeks.
  • 13-14 weeks. But I also wore regular jeans with a be band.

Now my PP pants dont fit so it mat. pants capris and shorts.

when I wore mat pants tho I used a be band to keep them up bc they slid down my belly.

  • I'm still wearing a lot of my normal pants with a bella band, but now have very few non-maternity tops that I can fit into.  I have a few pairs of maternity pants but they were all too big until around 23 weeks.

  • I'm still fitting into my regular clothes.  I lost a lot of weight in my first trimester and haven't seemed to gain it back yet.  I'm afraid it'll come back with a vengeance.
  • This time, 13 weeks-ish.  The first time, I made it to about 16 or 17 before I needed to make the switch.

  • I have started. :) I've bought some basics here and there, jeans, shorts...and I have already worn them. They're very cute and comfy, and I figure I better get my moneys worth b/c I'll only get to wear them till October..I can still wear my regular shirts though, and the bottoms aren't the full panel types but rather the elastic that goes under the belly. I was tired of feeling like I was squishing the baby everytime I tried to squeeze into my regular stuff!

With my first I wore maternity pants to work at 17-18wks but didn't have to wear maternity shirts until 22wks. This time around is a whole nothing ballgame. I've been wearing my maternity jeans since 10-11wks and depending on the shirt I've had to wear some maternity shirts the last 2 weeks.

  • I buy my pants to fit and have worn the same size for about 10 years, so I don't own "skinny jeans" or "fat jeans" I just have "they fit me jeans."  My pants were starting to annoy me around 12 or so weeks, and my mother decided to go shopping and bought me a pair of dress maternity pants and a pair of jeans and told me to just wear them and stop complaining.

I've been wearing them since about 14 weeks, and I started to get pregnant looking around 16-17 weeks, so there was no way I was going to be able to go back. JCPenny's had a sale around that time, and I bought several more things for $20.  Though the clothing from Motherhood is much cuter and a bit "younger" looking.  I just feel weird going in there sometimes.

  • I started wearing the pants at about 12 weeks. I started wearing the shirts a couple of weeks ago.

when I went for my 16 week appointment, I was down by close to 15lbs.  I still looked like I gained that much in my belly and boobs.  I went from a C cup to a DD and no way I was going to be able to get on normal pants.  It made me feel kind of fat.

  • With my first pregnancy, I started wearing looser shirts around 16 weeks, but I wasn't in maternity clothes until 19-20 weeks.

Second pregnancy - totally different.  My belly got big so fast.  I put on maternity pants around 6-8 weeks.

I had a 2nd trimester M/C two years ago.  I didn't need to wear maternity clothing at 16-18 weeks when it happened.  I looked like I gained a couple lbs, but nothing really visible.  This time at that point, I had strangers asking me about being pregnant.  It just feels weird.

  • I started wearing maternity pants about 16 weeks.. but I can still wear my normal shirts, they're just slightly tight.

  • 13 weeks i broke out my old maternity jeans from my son! i dont nessasarily need them but they are so much more comfortable then my ragular jeans!
  • I guess I'm a little crazy, but I still haven't bought much of anything in the way of real maternity clothes. I had a TON of long/loose/empire tops pre-pg, and they've been working fine as maternity tops since about 20 weeks or so.

Pants-wise I still fit into my old jeans with a bella band, but its getting really uncomfortable so its probably time to suck it up and buy some real maternity pants. I work from home so most of the time I can just get away with sweat pants, so I haven't been that motivated to go spend a bunch of money on stuff I'm only going to be wearing a few more months.

Why do you feel weird?  I have found that the department stores have a really bad selection so I am way happier going somewhere that has better, cuter stuff!

Does it make me weird to say that I'm kind of nervous when the sales lady with the fake belly comes over and asks if you need any help?  It might also have to do with the one lady trying to help me find "cute clothing that would look nice for school."  I know I can look young, but I'm nearing 30 and I'm shy in public and it just makes me feel weird all around.  At JCPennys with their middle aged clothing and the sales people who never talk to you, I feel less weird.

  • i usually wear maternity pants. but they are too big so i use my be band usually. i fit into my pp jeans but mat pants are just a lot more comfy! i dont ever want to go back to pants without an elastic waist! i wear maternity tank tops and some shirts, but other than that i still wear my pp shirts.

  • about 14 weeks this pregnancy...my 1st I didn't have to until 19 weeks. Big difference this time.
  • 13 weeks ish...but I could still do a bellyband with my jeans...16 weeks the bellyband no longer worked and I had to go completely with maternity patns and I even had to buy a jacket since my regular coats didn't close anymore.
  • My past pair of pre-preg work pants I stopped wearing around 13 weeks. My last pair of jeans I stopped wearing around 17 weeks. I started interchanging maternity pants/work pants pretty early...they were just significantly more comfortable.

  • I don't have to wear maternity clothes at all.  They are way more comfortable, but since I wam bigger anyway, all my clothes flow away from my torso. My pants all still fit because I lost weight to get pregnant and so far I have continued to lose.

I am hoping by 20 weeks I can/will make the switch.

  • I'm carrying low, and just recently started showing.  I started wearing maternity jeans at 21-22 weeks, and I still fit into my pp tops.  In weeks 18-21, pp pants were just too snug to sit down and keep them buttoned up at the same time, so I used the rubber band technique lol.
  • I am still wearing my clothes and I can still wear most of my jeans without the bella band (or the button trick.) Its starting to be a bit uncomfortable so I think maybe this week or the next one I am going to order the bella band (since I didn't like the one I used during my first pregnancy). I think I started to wear maternity clothes around, with my first pregnancy, around 6 months. I didn't get my first pair of maternity jeans until my 8th month because they were either too short or too big so I just wore my jeans with the bella band until then. I hate maternity clothes sizing!

  • I wore my regular pants with no problem (no band, no nothing) until 23 weeks.  Then between 23 and 25 weeks wore did the elastic band trick.  Started to wear regular maternity clothes at 25.5 weeks.

Maternity tops are varied... I still wear a lot of my regular tops (like cardigans, etc) now at 30 weeks.   Camis and t-shirts under need to be either long regular or maternity.

  • I am still wearing my belly band and normal jeans. Its getting tough though. The problem is, I'm 6'1 with a 36 inch inseam and I'm having a VERY hard time finding long enough jeans. I just ordered some online today that will probably be another 10 days, so I'm hoping I can hang on to until then!
  • I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow and still i do not need maternity wear yet. Im wondering my self when will i need to get maternity wear.

  • I have been wearing my belly band for a few weeks..but its getting to the point that I am going to have to get some maternity clothes..my pants hardly even go over my hips anymore Tongue Tied
  • I'm pregnant for the first time too. I waited until 19 weeks to buy maternity pants...and once I had them, I wished I had bought them earlier. I was at the point that my pants were unbuttoned and unzipped all of the time and still uncomfortable (I was using BellaBands or elastic bands to keep them up). I am just SO much more comfortable in maternity pants, even though they slip down sometimes. But in part I think that's because I was at the point that I was so desperate for maternity pants, and the only place nearby carrying maternity jeans was Target, and they only had one type, and I just bought them out of desperation. If I had been pickier and not so desperate, I probably would've found a better-fitting pair. I've started wearing maternity tops too, although I'm also wearing many of my non-maternity tops still.

I switched to pants at 16 weeks and it was WONDERFUL!
  • I started wearing a few of my maternity pants last week at 17 weeks.  The maternity pants are still a little big but I go tired of the rubber band trick.  Most all of my PP shirts still fit.
  • I started this week!

  • with my first pregnancy, about 17 weeks.

This time...geez I could have put them on a week after testing, but I waited until about 10 weeks.  They are just so much more comfortable than the elastic trick or a bella band.
