Too similar?

DH and I have been tossing around the name Ella for quite some time if this baby is a girl (even before we got pregnant) and its really grown on me. The only problem is that BIL and SIL are having a baby girl due in July (so 6 months before me) and they are naming her Emma.

We don't live in the same city, but we are pretty close with them. Are cousins named Emma and Ella too similar?

I do not see an issue with it at all. even if you lived in the same city and saw each othr regularly i think Ella and Emma are two differnet names and you should still go with it.

They're different enough, I guess, but isn't it a bit goofy to pick names that close? Out of alllllll the names in the world?

You'd think so, but since there are only about 6 girl names on earth that my husband finds tolerable and this is the only one of those that I like...it doesn't really seem "goofy" when you look at the options.

I would still use the name. They are different names, sure they are similar but your kids would be cousins, so it doesn't really matter.

I don't think that they are too similar at all. If you love the name, use it.

i don't think they're too similar. however, i will say this: i have an 11 week old named ella, and my crazy aunt for some reason insists on calling her emma ALL THE TIME. i have no idea why...sigh.
