Constipation

Asher's pedi recommended adding some rice cereal to his formula to thicken things up and help with the acid reflux.  Worked wonderful for that, but now Asher is hysterical and in pain because he can't poop.  He also started Prilosec today and I'm wondering if that has contributed to the problem.

I'm going to make his bottles with nursery water and prune juice tomorrow...but I don't have either of those things tonight.

What do I do in the mean time to help my little guy?

  • How much prune juice are you supposed to use? My LO is constipated too, from Prevacid. She used to poop every single diaper and now it's once a day and it is a ridiculous amount.

  • Try laying him down somewhere (a bouncy seat perhaps) and take one of his feet in each of your hands. Then, push up, so that his knees push into his tummy a bit. I alternate legs. This can help loosen up what's going on down there. It also helps with gas.

Can you try alternating the cereal bottles with non-cereal bottles?

Yeah i'm not giving him any more cereal bottles tonight, at least until the poor guys poops and has the prune juice.  I tried the leg thing, but he was hysterical, hes finally sleeping, but he hasn't pooped :  (

  • Poor Asher :(

I know that Jack had some struggles when we switched to thicker rice starch formula because of reflux, but eventually his system regulated. He hardly ever has an issue now.

I know it's not much comfort at the moment... but there is hope!
