Jogging Strollers

Hi Ladies,

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on jogging strollers.  I am currently debating between the BOB Ironman and Revolution.

Ive been a runner/athlete my whole life.  Prepregnancy I was running about 20 miles a week which, I know, isn't a ton, but I have run several 10 mile races, 1/2 marathons, and a marathon over the past several years.  I plan on continuing with my running after the baby is born.  My husband also runs several days a week.  Does anyone have any suggestions based on our activity level?

It seems to me that the people reviewing the Revolution and saying they love it do not run as much as my husband and I do, so Im leaning towards the Ironman, but maybe Im totally offbase.

Thanks so much!!

Re: Jogging Strollers

  • Hi, I'm sort of a lurker on this board but I saw your question.  I ran everyday (almost) before I got pregnant.  Unfortunately around 5 months my hips gave me a ton of trouble so I had to stop, but I started up again after the baby was born.  I have the BOB Revolution which I LOVE!!  The one thing about it is that before baby is 5/6 months old they should be in the car seat with the car seat adapter (this is something extra you have to buy), and they don't recommend running with the infant seat.  But once my kiddo hit 5 months we were off and running  :)  I have a lot of paved trails near me and this stroller is great on them, but it is also good on other terrain but I usually won't go as fast in case I catch a bump.

  • The main difference is the fixed wheel...

If you plan to use the Bob only for running (not really anything else) and plan to get an additional stroller, then the Ironman is great.

But if you want to use the Bob as your primary AND running stroller, with an umbrella or snap n go for quick trips, then get a Revolution.

I run 3-4 days a week and will be training for another half in the fall...I bought the Revolution. It rolls like a dream! Hubby and I can both use it for running with the front wheel locked out, but we can also use it at bike races, day long excursions, walking around the neighborhood, etc. with the front wheel unlocked for easy maneuvering. We got a Peg Perego SIP 30 carseat and the BOB adapter and are very happy! I'm not running yet, but walking everyday. I'll be running VERY soon...and plan to use it frequently. I bought a used Maclaren Easy Traveler for the short trips and will probably get a little umbrella stroller for when Baby Bix is out of the carseat.

    Hope this helps.

  • I have the Ironman and love it. We've had it for almost 4 years, use it for runs as well as just walking the neighborhood and I don't mind the fixed front wheel. I'm sure it would be slightly easier to maneuver if I could have the wheel swivel while walking, but I don't find it to be a necessity.

I prefer the Ironman because I like the fixed front wheel for running, and also like that the front wheel is 16" which makes it easier to push. The largest wheel on the strollers that have a swivel/fixed front wheel is 12". I've taken the stroller running on pavement, on trails, and even on the beach (hard packed sand) with no problems.

  • I use the Revolution as my primary stroller. When ds was in an infant seat, I used a snap n go for quick trips. Now I use an umbrella stroller for quick trips. Soooo glad I skipped the whole "travel system" debacle.

With my pedi's approval, I started running with ds at 2 months (with infant seat and adapter). I trained for a half by the time he was 6 mo. Currently, I'm training for a marathon and use it to run with him 2-3 times a week.

Personally, I don't get the appeal of the Ironman. It has a fixed wheel, yes, but the Revolution wheel locks into place if you want it to. That way you have the option to swivel if you want. If I didn't have the swivel option, there is no way I could use it as my primary stroller--it would be a giant pain to maneuver.

    good luck with your decision!

  • Keep in mind the terrain you'll be running on as well. I equate the difference between the ironman and the revolution to the difference between a road bike and a mountain/hybrid bike (respectively). I'm a triathlete - so naturally the Ironman originally drew me in. but after further research and since I try to do all my long runs on trails - I decided that the revolution was a better choice. Sure - it's a bit heavier, but - look at it this way - you'll be more prepared come race day because you've been training pushing extra weight.
