Anyone have their wisdom teeth out? What helped for pain?

Kevin had his out on Wednesday, he had 3 none of which were impacted.  The top one though was in a weird spot.

He's been in pain but it's been fairly tolerable.  Last night for some reason it was a lot worse.  Today he said it hurts but is tolerable again.  He has vicoden but he said it doesn't seem to help.  Last night he put heat on it and then cold and he said that helped.  Luckily no real swelling or bruising.

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

  • I had mine out well over 10 years ago but I think I just took a ton of ibuprofen. I might have had some Lortab. Really just keeping ice on it, not talking much and eating soft foods (esp. cold like ice cream) helped. I would think it might be ok at this point if it doesn't hurt too bad to rinse his mouth with warm salt water or you can get some Orajel mouth rinse (love that stuff).  Hope he feels better.

  • I had them out 2000 or 2001 when I was in high school and took the mortin (I think 800 mg) and thats what worked the best for me.  Also I had to sleep a little more upright so I used extra pillows to get me up a little higher.  And chewing to much made it hurt more.  All but one of mine were impacted.
  • I had mine out 15 years ago, and tylenol with codeine helped a ton, they were impacted.    If he is in more pain now I would keep a close eye on him in case of infection.
