Yeah... get it looked at as soon as you suspect that's what your child may have, and don't let any doctors tell you otherwise, if your kid is acting WAY off norm, and it's definitely not teething (ie. the normal teething remedies don't work). Antibiotics work wonders.
ETA: My experience - Evelyn suddenly went from sleeping through the night (9pm till sometime between 5 and 7) to waking up SEVERAL times a night, screamed/cried every time she was awake, didn't eat very much, scratched the hell out of her ear (big hint right there), puked, and refused to sleep ANYWHERE except on somebody's chest... that was all in the first day. I took her to the doctor's that day (not my normal, and not the other one I like in the practice), and got told "she's just teething, that's life"..... no, that's not teething, my girl's been teething for MONTHS... and teething remedies did NOT work - I tried Hyland's Teething Gel, and it didn't help. I let him throw me so far off track that it took my friend telling me that Evelyn looked really sick (which I knew), to call the doctor's office back and make an appointment for the next day... and this was 3 days after it started that I made the call. I was then told to go to the hospital, to get her hooked up to IV's because of possible dehydration (considering she puked up EVERYTHING she ate on the day I called in, and wouldn't take the pedialyte cuz it was apple flavour). After a 4.5 hour visit to the hospital out of town, we got her antibiotics (no IVs needed), and within 30 minutes of getting the first dose of ear drops, she was acting her normal happy self.

Done!! We took DS to the dr. on Thursday when sitter called and told me he had a really high temp of 103. We got antibiotics and started on tylenol. Poor thing was so hot and limp. He's been sleeping alot and not eating a ton. Just wanted to see what others have experienced. I've decided that once LO is down to sleep I'm not going to wake him!! Poor thing I think just needs sleep to get better!

If he's not eating a ton, put him on pedialyte for 24 hours... we did after getting back from the hospital, and after being on pedialyte, she started sucking back the formula like crazy! The hospital also told me to use motrin (advil?) rather than tylonel, for some reason... it seemed to do the trick! She didn't have a fever, though.... that was never a symptom for her.
Re: ear infection...
