Trouble TTC

Needle Poke

This morning when I went in for my baseline appt, they had to take 7 vials of blood. She (my study coordinator) got 3 vials out of my left arm, and then the needle popped out. She tried my right arm and couldn't find one, and ended up taking the last 4 vials from my right hand (OUCH!).

In the process she poked herself with my needle, and I feel horrible because she had to go get all sorts of tests done as a result. They called just now to tell me to start my meds, but also to get my permission to test my blood for HIV and hepatitis.

If I said no, she would have to go get tested every 6 months for 5 years. Crazy!! Of course I said yes, I can't even imagine saying no.

    THANK YOU!!

It's a blind study, so I don't know if it's Clomid or Femara. I am looking forward to analyzing s/e to see if I can tell. :)

I took Clomid once before, so I sort of remember what it was like. Though for me it was mostly moodiness.

As for the pills ... they gave me capsules (so the drug is ground up inside these generic tubes) so I can't tell. BUMMER!

I had a major meltdown the last day of clomid, it was like an out of body experience.  I was FLIPPING out and crying, like snot running down my face crying, and I have no idea why.  It was awful!  At least I knew it was the Clomid, and had warned DH, but it was still crazy.

Good luck!  I hope whichever drug you get works for you (and doesn't cause too many S/Es).

I'm sorry they had problems getting your blood.  It really sucks when they have to put the needle in multiple times.

So at what point do they take these 7 vials?

They took 2 vials at my screening appointment, 10 vials at my SHG appointment, it will be 7 vials at every baseline appointment (today was one) and then 4-5 vials at the mid cycle visits. That's a LOT of blood!!

I'm sure I am the slowest kid on the block and everyone else knows this, but on the off chance that it might help someone....I am told that it makes blood vessels easier to find if you drink 16 oz of water 15-30 minutes before heading in.  I got this advice from a phlebotomist after a particularly horrible blood draw.

  • Wow, that's crazy! Poor nurse.

And here's to hoping you got the femara! :)
