I live in a small town and I don't think anyone sells birthing balls around here. I can get my hands on an exercise ball though. Is there a difference? Also they come in 55, 65 or 75 cm. I'm short (5'4") so would the 55 cm one be best for me? TIA!
I'm not sure about sizes, but I just wanted to mention that when we took our hospital tour, they let us know that they have them at the hospital (and they are clean and ready for you) so you might wanna see if you're going to need to bring your own anyway.

Awesome! I've really been wanting one cause I've been having a lot of lower back pain and I've heard they help. My hospital does have one but I'd like one for now. One more thing....we don't have carpet, I'll probably want a mat for under it won't I?
Also, if you buy one now, bring your own to the hospital. You're going to get used to yours and it will feel a certain way. When you're in labor, you'll be surprised at the little things that can annoy you, and sitting on a birth ball that you're not used to and wishing it was yours can be really irritating.

I think it depends on what you like. I am 5'1" and I got the 85cm ball. DH just finished pumping it up 5 mins ago. It is quite comfortable to sit on and makes my hips feel much better. I see a physical therapist and she suggested the 75cm would be good.
I think they are the same thing. I've been taking a prenatal exercise class at the hospital taught by a physical therapist. She talks about the balls we use in class as the same thing they would have in the L&D. Most of us are using 55cm size. I'm 5'2" and it's the size she recommended for me. Also, be aware that you can pump it up more or less to make it feel comfortable. She said that when you sit on it, your hips and knees should be about at the same level. She gave us some great stretches for preggos so let me know if you'd like some explanations of the stretches. I found info about what size to get by just searching it on google.
Re: Exercise Ball same as Birthing Ball?

You can use it fine on hardwood or tile. I do.
