I have done a lot of research and it seems like lots of parents are experiencing the frustration of insurance companies not covering the SoluTab form of Prevacid since it's offered in capsule form OTC. I have Aetna and even tried getting an authorization, to which they still said they would not cover even though my 15 week old has diagnosed reflux. My pediatrician suggested buying the capsules and mixing with formula. From everything I read online it seems like lots of parents remove the beads from OTC Prevacid and mix with 3 to 5 mL formula OR apple/pear juice....Is there anyone else on the board who does this and let me know how it's working....
Thanks Ladies, HAPPY WEEKEND!
Re: If your baby is on Prevacid...
My DS is on Prilosec- and we have Aetna- it was all kinds of issues since Prilosec is offered OTC- but obviously DS can't take the OTC since it's in pill form. (I mean- seriously Aetna- you would think they would know that- I know that my DS isn't the 1st baby with reflux!)
Anyhow- my doc called Aetna- to find out what they would cover- then called the pharmacy and told them what to make. And we are now getting a months supply of Prilosec at the $10 co-pay.
However I did NOT get re-imbursed for the $150 I had already spent in a 6 week time period- filling it every 2 weeks at $50 a pop- before they would cover it-
Ask you pedi to give you a prescription for the Compounded version, its must be kept refrigerated
You run the risk with the capsules of giving to much. Talk with your pedi or see a Pulmonigest (they specialize in dealing with kids that have reflux)
PM me if you have any more questions
