DH and I are going on a 'babymoon' in May for 5 days. We have a puppy who is 1 year old. He has been boarded at a kennel before only because we had noone to watch him ( family vacation ) It was 25.00 a day, and I loved the place! It was awesome with TV's and their own little rooms. Anyways,
We could ask my parents to watch our pup for free ( of course we would give them a thank you gift for watching him ) but they have two dogs already which our pup has met and played with before.( one is a small shitzu puppy other is a puggle who is 5 ) I'm just afraid since he is such a big dog compared to the other dogs he might get rough with the puppy. He is still VERY much a puppy they might get annoyed. ( he is 65 lbs btw)
WWYD? Ask parents to watch pup for 5 days or just goto Kennel and pay 125.00 for boarding.
here is a picture of puppy ( he is a Dalmatian/Boxer mix )
His Name is Hurley btw

Re: WWYD ? Pet Boarding Related
I would talk to my parents, and get the dogs all together and see how your dog acts with them at your parents house. Then if he does stuff that makes you nervous, or that you think may be risky, board him.
Our pups hate being at a kennel so we have a dog sitter that we drop them off with. Because of that, I personally avoid kennels at all costs - so I would talk to your parents.
I'd ask the parents first and talk it over with them. Also, my main concern with that scenario would be the added responsibility your parents will have of watching another dog on top of the dogs they already have, as well as making sure the puppy is ok. However, if all the dogs have consistently played nicely in the past, I don't think it would be an issue. It is really up to how comfortable your parents feel.
On the other hand, the extra money spent may in fact be more worth than the extra energy and time your parents would have to put in.
I would probably do a trial run for a day to see how your guy plays with the other dogs. If it goes well, then ask your parents.
You might be surprised, a lot of dogs recognize that another animal is a baby and needs to be played with gently. We have a large mastiff, when she was about 9 months old and all skin and large feet, my mom got a lab. Even at 6 weeks old my 9 month old mastiff would lay down and let the lab puppy crawl all over her, chew on her ears, tug on her neck and would very gently play with her. There was once that my dog accidentally got too rough when the lab was a bit older, probably 4 months or so, and the lab whined. My dog stopped immediately, got up, walked across the room and laid down on the dog bed.
So you dog might very well sense that he needs to be careful with the smaller puppy.
Your puppy is adorable!
Apollo Puppy weighs 100 pounds. He is afraid of small dogs. Especially the barky ones....can't say I blame him, actually.
Hmmm...I'd say that if money's not an issue, go with the boarding (I'm just thinking of how Apollo would react to being left behind around two much smaller dogs) place. Then again, even money weren't an issue, but the three dogs got along famously, then go for it, and bring your parents back a pressie for watching him for you!
It depends where you think the puppy might be happier being left behind!
I'd ask my parents first, and if that wasn't an option, then go with the kennel.
OMG, your puppy is ADORABLE!
He used to live with my parents ( when I lived there ) and this was before they had the shitzu puppy. He played with the older dog who is now 5, but has only played with the shitzu puppy once and the puppy was terrified of my dog lol. So I guess we could take him over again and see how he does, depends on what my parents say.
Hurley is so beautiful!
I nearly had a nervous breakdown last time I tried to drop my boys off to a kennel, so now I ask someone to come and stay at my house and take care of them if I go away. I always leave them with a fully stocked fridge and lots of DVDs and wine!
Have you got a friend that would love to stay at your house while you are away?
