Babies: 3 - 6 Months

anyone else's 5 mth old not rolling over??

my DD is 5 mths today and has yet to roll over from either direction. she can hold herself up great and has almost rolled from back to tummy but gets 3/4 of there and gives up. she is pretty close to sitting up without support but doesn't really seem interested in rolling over. anyone else's LO like this?

  • Mine!!

He doesn't seem to have any interest in doing it either. I have held toys up, I've laid out of sight to where he would have to roll to see me and nothing. I'm not totally concerned as I was told that some babies never roll. And think about it, have you ever met a kindergardener that can't roll over?

  • Everyone once in a great while he will roll from tummy to back. Hasn't done back to tummy yet. But like I said, he's hardley done it.
  • Yup! DD is just about 5 months and has only rolled over once and I think it was by accident.. I asked her pedi about it and he said that some babies skip the whole rolling over thing and go straight to scooting/crawling. It's perfectly normal, babies don't HAVE to roll over.

  • good to know it's normal :) i wasn't too worried but then my mom keeps asking me if she's rolling over yet every time i talk to her and so i started to wonder..

    thanks ladies :)

  • M actually rolled over all by herself for the first time yesterday.  Dont worry if your LO skips this step.

  • Sounds exactly what my DD was doing until Tuesday when she finally rolled for the first time. I missed it, but she did it for my yesterday twice! I think I read they need to be doing it by the end of the fifth month so there is still time.

  • DS just started to roll over on Monday. Now he does it constantly - including in his sleep, which is annoying because he wakes up when he realizes he flipped onto his belly.
