TTC after 35

Assisted Hatching?

Good morning! I was wondering who has used Assisted Hatching with their IVF cycles? We are going with ICSI for sure, due to MFI...and the Doc said we can opt for Assisted Hatching as well. But they wont know if they will to it until after the retreival.

Has anyone used this and did it help? thanks!

Re: Assisted Hatching?

  • We did it with all 3 of my IVF cycles.  We left the call up to teh embryologist to make when they did the retrieval.

  • The lab did it for our last (DE) cycle.  We signed something early on that gave the lab the authority to do what they felt was needed.

One thing I have heard - AH makes it slightly more likely that the embryo would split, meaning identical twins.

  • we went to an IVF info session at a clinic last week and assisted hatching is mandatory for women 37 and over because by that age they say the chances of the egg having a hard shell are likely...it costs extra too.
