Daycare and teething fevers

DS is apparently one of those kids who gets small fevers when sprouting teeth.  His daycare has a rule that kids are kicked out with a temp of 100.4 and cannot be allowed back in until they have been fever free for 24 hours.

Matt's doesn't like Tylenol to be administered until a temp of 101 is reached, so his temp generally fluctuates until the tooth has broken.

How does your daycare handle teething fevers?

Re: Daycare and teething fevers

  • Our daycare has the same policy regarding fevers.  So far his temp hasn't exceeded the limit when I have taken it at home.  I don't think they have taken his temp at the school...I just let them know that he is getting another tooth and has a low grade fever.

  • Our DC has the same policy.  I just take him in (if he feels ok that morning) and wait until they call me to pick him up (if they temp him later in the day).  Then, I pretty much don't have a choice, and have to keep him home the next day b/c of the 24 hour rule.
