Hi, I'm new to this site and this is my first time pregnant, so this is all new to me, I was just wondering for those you you that are having twins, I was wondering what your hgc levels were and how far along were you at the time your blood was taken?.....I was just wondering because by OB was had me come it twice for far and I guess my numbers are almost doubling every day, I didn't know if this was something common with twins?

Do you know you are having twins? Have you had an u/s done? HCG is not a good indicator of multiple pregnancy. The only way to know for sure is with an u/s.

No, I don't know what I'm having twins, my u/s is not for 3 weeks, I was just wondering because many of my friends are pregnant also and their numbers are only doubling every 3 days and mine is every 1 day, and my husband has twins on his side

Your husband having twins on his side has no bearing on whether or not you could have twins. You would have to have the gene to hyperovulate 2 or more eggs. Now if you have a daughter she could carry the gene which is why some say that twins skip a generation.

Your husband's lineage will not have any impact in your likelihood to have twins (he can't make you ovulate twice). I'm assuming you haven't done fertility treatments either? Beta doubling time usually just indicates that you have a healthy growing baby in there, not necessarily twins.
Unfortuantely you are going to have to just wait for 3 weeks to find out. But if I were you, I would just assume 1 baby for now.

My HCG levels didn't increase anymore than a single pregnancy would. I had an U/S done at 6 weeks because I was seeing a specialist. You can request an earlier ultrasound and your doctor might do it if you suspect twins, but its doubtful or you might have to pay for it out of pocket. If they are identical its a spontaneous, random act of the universe. If they are fraternal its because something made you ovulate two eggs (that's what happened to me!). Good Luck!
Thanks for all you help.........I will be happy with whatever I get, I'm just so excited to be pregnant.............I guess I was just wondering if it was normal that my numbers were increasing so rapidly, and didn't know if it ment anything.......thanks for all your help, I guess I'll just have to wait 3 weeks to see.....

I am having twins. There are 4 sets of fraternal twins in my lineage (mom's dad's mom had 2 sets and two grandkids - now 3 I guess, have had sets). I didn't use any fertility drugs, I just hyperovulated and am having a set of twins (we are 99% sure they are fraternal). If you did get identical it's a fluke thing, not a heredity thing and not that common. I had my BETAS done at 17 and 19 DPO because I had an early miscarriage in the Fall. They were high 500 the first time and tripled 1500 in 2 days. I didn't think too much of it. I had my 8 week U/S and there were two.
My friend is having one. She has no fraternal twins in her lineage (that she knows of). She didn't use fertility drugs. She had her BETAS done and they were higher and more than tripled. She had an 8 week U/S and there was one.
You never really know until you have an U/S, but if you don't have genetics or fertility drugs and are relatively young, your chances of fraternal twins isn't that high. Hope that helped.
Betas can vary widely from pregnancy to pregnancy. Your friend who is doubling every 3 days could easily be having twins just as easily as someone whose is doubling every day. My betas were higher and doubled faster with this singleton than with my twins.
I had my hcg level checked at 4 weeks when I founfd out I was preggo. It tripled in two days. Then I had an u/s at 6 weeks which confirmed the twin pregnancy.
