What do you do with the scraps / leftovers? I know my kids would love the cutesy shapes and cutouts, but it seems like there'd be an awful lot of food crusts & scraps leftover.
I try to have as little waste as possible. With the sandwiches, I make them with a half sandwich - one piece of bread - and there's not that much waste (and I'd be cutting the crusts off anyway. The veggies, I usually use the "negative space" in the bento (see this post). And whatever is waste? My husband is usually around to make sure nothing goes in the trash .
Oh, and if anyone is bento-ing, or just wants to try in the hopes to win some great stuff, today's the last day of my bento challenge. Even if you make the lunch in a tupperware, who cares - give it a try!
