Took DS in today for his 4-month shots. They give us this handout on feeding solids (though we're not starting until close to 6 months). At the top it says "
Q: When is your baby ready for solids?
A: When they have doubled their birth weight, are drinking 32 oz of milk a day, or sitting up on their own".
This seemed a little random/jumping the gun to me, so I flipped it over and (surprise surprise!) the author of the handout is Gerber Foods.

Re: Ridiculousness at the dr's office
Nice.
I guess Scarlett will never be ready for solids. She doesn't eat anywhere near 32oz of milk a day and probably never will.
Bloggin' It
Jaimers - the ridiculousness is that the doctor's office is handing out a pamphlet encouraging early transition to solid food, written by the makers of those same solid foods.

I'm not sure I see where they are encouraging it, information is just that, something you read and draw your own conclusions from it. Did the pedi specifically say something like "she should be on solids"? Every baby is different, some require solids earlier then others. I've seen those guidelines distributed by Gerber elsewhere, like baby books, etc...I really don't see the big deal, you know your baby best and will know when she is ready for solids.
Baaaaaa-aaaaah.

LOL @ Gerber
Tristan was ready for solids at 4 months. He grabbed at our food when we were eating. We never made solids the bulk of his diet until he was 12 months.
