I am feeling annoyed at my daycare center due to the huge influx of babies lately. There are 12 (or 13, need to count) babies in J's room! I feel like they are packed in like sardines.
I wanted to see how that compares to others so I can know if I am in the right to say something to them or if this is typical.
So -
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month?
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low?
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare?
Thanks!
Re: Daycare Poll - how many kids in the room?
For me -
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month?
$1,480
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low?
High, Atlanta area
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare?
12 or 13
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? $800 (I alternate 3 days one week and 4 days the next, etc.)
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? - Miami = high
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? 7 babies with 2 teachers (sometimes 3 teachers)
Camryn Grace ~ July 6th, 2009 ~ 7lbs 9oz, 20.5"
Brayden Richard Drew ~ December 20, 2010~7lbs 9oz, 20"
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? 760$. But with the tax credit, it's about 300$.
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? Mediuem
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? I don't know yet. Either 10 with 2 teachers, or 5 with 1 teacher.
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month?
$475/week for both of them.
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low?
Medium I guess? Dallas/Fort Worth area
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare?
1 teacher for every 4 kids. There are 6 right now so the ratio is really 1:3 at a max. Some of the 6 are P/T and on occasion I will pick them up and they will be the only ones there.
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? $955 but that is low for the area.
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? High - Bay Area, CA
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? At most 8 with 2 teachers. Right now only 7.
1. $220/week
2. medium
3. No more than 8
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? $1200
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? High
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? 5 with 2 teachers
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? $255 per week...so about $1025-and that is at our employee day care center
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? Medium-High
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? there are 10 enrolled but they don't all come every day. The most I have ever seen is 7 at one time.
Thanks guys.
So it is as I expected - no one has more than 8 for the most part. GRRR. I am so having a discussion with them! The cribs are all crammed up against each other and there is barely room in the fridge for J's bottles and food.
It hasn't happened yet but I feel like there is going to be some kind of mixup with another baby's food. Plus it is just really chaotic in there.
1. $ 800 month (PT)
2. Medium - High (DC)
3. 11 babies with 3 teacher (the requirement is 4:1)... we have a unique room with 6wks - 18months in one room but divided in 2, there is a baby side and a creepers side, so total there could be 18 kids - 8 or 12 babies and 4 or 8 creepers... but there has to be 1 teacher for every 4 kids on that side...
1. $1248/month for both boys
2. Average cost of living
3. The room as capacity for 10. They have only had that many for a brief time while the boys have been there. Usually they have around 5 or 6. Right now it's 5.
1. $640
2. Low
3. Max of eight ... but the key thing to know is the baby-to-teacher ratio. New York State caps it at 4-1, so there are always two teachers. If there were more babies, I would be okay with it so long as there was another teacher.
Is that 12-13 number with one teacher? I don't know how licensing is in your state but in my state it's 1-4 or 1-5 ratio. I can't remember, because the day cares I worked at were accredited and their ratios are lower. Also if they have the cribs on top of each other like you also mentioned above, they are probably in violation with the fire department. I would check with licensing and the fire department in your area and express your concerns, because it sounds like to me your day care has a lot of violations going on.
1. $1025
2. medium
3. 9-10 Max in an infant room is 10 per state law. State law mandates a 5:1 ratio as well. Ours keeps a 3:1 ratio

Thanks again everyone. Just to clarify, the ratio of teachers to kids is 4:1 as per state law (wish it were 3:1 for what we're paying).
So they have 3 teachers in there. It isn't a ratio issue so much as just a high volume of people all in one room creating a chaotic atmosphere.
1. How much do you pay for daycare per month? $1350 for full time
2. What is the cost of living in your area - high, medium, low? NJ...20 mins outside NYC...cost of living is high
3. How many children are in the same room at daycare? 9 infants....3 primary teachers in the class... Our state ratio is 4:1, the day care is 3:1.
