What's the average going rate these days??? We've only used someone other than family twice now. Family doesn't charge We went out last Friday night, about 5 hours. We have a 3 1/2 year old, almost 2 yr old & a 5 month old - what we payed the girl worked out to be about $13 an hour. So how does that sound?? Too much, too little, about right??
Thanks ladies
Re: Babysitting rates?????
$20/hour! Holy crap....and I live in CT. Not in your area though, I'm guessing!
We just went through this recently. We finally used someone non-family and we asked her what she charges. $10/hour. So that's what we paid her. Both times we have used her, she has actually made about $12/hour since it hasn't been a solid 4 hours but we just round up.
She is 17 years old, has babysitting experience, and is CPR certified. She gets dropped off but we bring her home.
Someone here recommended www.sittercity.com to try to get an idea but I didn't find it very helpful as there isn't anyone on there under 18 (that I could find).
I would just ask the sitter what they make and go from there. I would say, since there are three kids (I have two....5.5 and 3.5) and one of them is an infant, you are probably looking more in the $13-15 range.
Totally depends on the area and age of the sitter.
I pay a young teenager $7-$8/hr. And older teenager would get about $10/hr. A college/grad student about $12/hr. Our nanny got $15/hr.
It varies widely by location.
For my brother's wedding in the Hamptons, we paid $20/hr for 2 kids, in Annapolis, it was $10/hr, and here it's between $7-8 according to the local sitters.
